Presentation at St. Pauls St. Pauls UMC of Laurel, invites the community to come hear what God is doing in Africa at a presentation by the Rev. Dr. Jonathan Baker and his wife Donna on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. The presentation will focus on their missionary work in the Democratic Republic of Congo with children and families at medical centers, nutrition/feeding centers, agriculture projects and trade schools. Rev. Baker has a family history of service as his father and grandfather were both United Methodist pastors. Prior to his call to be in full-time service as a missionary, Rev. Baker served as senior pastor at several churches on Delmarva. Donna is a registered nurse, and together with her husband, their ministry focuses on the physical, emotional, and spiritual welfare of the people. Harvest and Heritage Day Harvest and Heritage Day will take place at Wheatley Methodist Protest Church on Saturday Oct. 21. This event will include a yard and bake sale and an opportunity to observe various heritage items that will be on display. A yard sale and bake sale featuring sweet potato biscuits (Dot Wheatley Henry recipe Ð an old Wheatley family recipe), as well as apple and other fruit pies and other home baked goodies will begin the days events.
On display, for observing, will be an antique Shad boat, model working boats, antique farm equipment, vintage clothing, and various displays from this 18th century church. The recently restored 1875 Wheatley School building (used as community hall since 1936) and the Wheatley MP Church will be open for observing. The yard and bake sales begin at 7 a.m. The observation items will be available 10 a.m. In addition to the home baked items, prepackaged snacks and canned/bottled drinks will also be available. Come out and join as we celebrate our heritage and a bountiful harvest.
Open Mic Christian Night Open Mic Christian Night, celebrating its sixth year, will take place on Oct. 6 from 7-9 p.m. at Compassionate Shepherd Ministries, located at 10771 N. Plaza Road in Laurel, across from Food Lion Plaza. The special host/emcee is Jimmy Hoppa. Sandwich sale The Delmar Church of God of Prophecy, located at Route 13 south at Dorothy Road in Laurel (three miles north of the Md.,Del. state line., will hold a sandwich sale on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will feature oyster sandwiches, crab cakes, soft crabs, chicken salad, and lots more. There will also be baked goods, homemade ice cream, and soups.
