Services at Old Christ Church Summer services for Old Christ Church, Laurel, will be held at 10 a.m. on the first Sunday of each month, June through September. The services are conducted according to an historic liturgy, Holy Eucharist, celebrated by the Rev. Howard Backus and sermon. Come as you are and enjoy worship in this church which was built in 1771. Hymn Sing at St. Paul's St. Paul's UMC invites the community to this month's Hymn Sing featuring The Island Boys on Sunday, June 29. Known for their love of people and strong vocals, Danny Travers of Deal Island and Ernie Evans of Smith Island have been singing together for the glory of God for six years. The program starts at 5:15 p.m. and a love offering will be taken to benefit their music ministry. St. Paul's UMC is located at 32827 Old Stage Rd., Laurel. Allegiance Quartet to perform Christ's Church of New Hope will host the Allegiance Quartet in a special time of fellowship and revival on June 29-30 and July 1, at the Bridgeville Banquet Center (next to Jimmy's Grille) in Bridgeville. Sunday's worship times will be at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday worship times will be at 7 p.m. Nationally known recording artist, Art Bush, leads the quartet in their unique blend of contemporary and southern Gospel music, as they return to Christ's Church of New Hope for the third year in a row. Gospel music concert Join the town of Laurel at the gazebo in downtown Laurel on July 4th for an array of gospel music. Every singer has their own unique style of praising God through their music. Your ears will be blessed by Dean Adkins, Gloria Holland, Laura Mitchell, Galen Queen and Sherri Ridgeway. The concert will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Bring your chairs, clap your hands and enjoy a lot of singing.

Events at St. Stephen's UMC St. Stephen's UMC will hold Vacation Bible School, "An Island Odyssey," for kids in pre-K through 6th grade, the week of July 13-18. A kick off breakfast will be held at the church in Camelot Hall from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 12. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for kids ages 4 to 12 and free for kids under 4. Tickets are available in advance at the church office or at the door the day of the event. VBS will be held nightly from 5:30 to 8 on Sunday, July 13 through Friday, July 18. A light dinner will be served nightly from 5:30 to 6. Register online at A benefit fundraiser for VBS will be held at Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt in the North Salisbury Commons from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 27. The church is selling flower pots to raise money for Relay for Life. There are various sizes and colors. Cost is $5 each. Pots are on display after church socials in Camelot Hall. Gospel Cafe Gospel Cafe, "For God & Country Celebration," will be held at Christ Evangelistic Church in Laurel from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 5. Passwaters' share music and message Asbury United Methodist Church, Rt. 9 near Hardscrabble, will welcome Jimmy and Melody Passwaters as they bring a special service of music and message to Asbury at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 29.

Jimmy is from Greensboro, Md. and shares his love of God and fellow Christians as a traveling minister. Asbury welcomes all to come and join in this special service.

Open Mike Christian Night Open Mike Christian Night is the first and third Friday of every month from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Lighthouse Church. Free admission and free snacks. Bring your singing talents and CD or musical instrument. One person, group singers, young to seniors are welcome. Enjoy singing, praises and testimonials to the Lord. 'Arrow Island' VBS First Baptist Church of Seaford presents "Arrow Island," its 2014 Vacation Bible School program, Monday, July 7 through Friday, July 11 from 7 a.m. to noon. VBS at St. Paul's St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 32827 Old Stage Road, Laurel, will have Vacation Bible School (VBS) on Aug. 4-8 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This year's theme is Jungle Safari. VBS at Greenwood UMC Join us the week of Sunday, July 6 to Friday, July 11 for Vacation Bible School at Greenwood United Methodist Church. Children ages pre-K through sixth grade will explore the nature of God as they go on a jungle safari adventure. Teens will experience a special youth program led by youth leaders Jennifer and Donald Smith. There will be music, Bible based studies, crafts and snacks each evening. Home repair program available Homeowners in rural areas who need repairs to their home but can't afford regular loans may be eligible for a USDA Rural Development loan at only one percent interest. Seniors, age 62 and older, may qualify for free home repairs up to $7,500 through the USDA Rural Development grant program. Funding may become limited after June 30. "We are looking for lower income homeowners that need help fixing or replacing a roof, installation or repair of a septic system, replace storm doors and windows, or other repairs to correct or remove existing health, safety, sanitary and accessibility issues," said Bill McGowan, Delaware and Maryland director for USDA Rural Development.
