Salvation Army offers new program The Salvation Army Sussex Chapel has begun a new program this year, Music & Moore for area second and third graders. The goal of the program is to help improve reading skills through Mission: Literacy, a Christian based reading program designed to reinforce reading skills learned at school. The program meets Wednesdays after school from 3:45 to 6 p.m. at the Salvation Army on 23431 Sussex Hwy. For details, contact Lt. Aida L. Manso-Roln at 628-2020.

Christian Movie Night Christian Movie Night at Laurel Baptist Church will be held the last Friday of the month at 7 p.m. Nursery and refreshments will be provided. For more information, contact Pastor Steve and Brenda Booth at 381-1850.

'Fit & Fun Fellowship' The Seaford Wesleyan Women meet once a week for a free night of "Fit & Fun Fellowship." All ladies are welcome to join us as we exercise our bodies and refresh our spirits. For details call 629-9859.

Summer Service Schedule Old Christ Church, Laurel will be open for regular Sunday services on the first Sunday of each month, June through September. The services, Holy Eucharist and Sermon, will take place at 10 a.m. on the following Sundays: June 2, July 7, Aug. 4 and Sept. 1.

Gospel Music Jamboree An Outdoor Gospel Music Jamboree will be held at Laurel Baptist Church on Sunday, June 2 beginning at 1 p.m. Bring your own chair or blanket. Free food hot dogs and hamburgers. Any questions, call Sam at 302-684-5853.

Fish Fry at Centenary UMC Centenary United Methodist Church, 200 W. Market St., Laurel, will host an all you can eat Fish Fry from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 15. Cost is $10/adults, $5/children (ages 6-12), under 6/free. Carry outs available.

Homecoming at Mt. Calvary Mt. Calvary A.M.E. Church in Concord will hold its Annual homecoming on Sunday, May 26 at 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The morning messenger will be the Rev. Whitt Deas of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Matthews, N.C. Music will be rendered by the Homecoming Choir. The afternoon messenger will be Bishop Reginald T. Jackson of the 12th Episcopal District. Music will be rendered by a family and friends choir.

Events at Union UMC On Saturday, June 15, Union United Methodist Church located at 2 N. Laws St., Bridgeville, will host The Island Boys, a southern gospel duo from the Eastern Shore - Danny Travers from Deal Island and Ernie Evans from Smith Island.

There is no admission charge although a "love offering" will be taken. For more information, call the church office at 337-7409. The church will hold its annual free Vacation Bible School Program from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on June 24-28. The program is open to all children ages 4 through completed 5th grade. For more information and a registration form, call the church office. Please register early because it helps with planning for meals and staffing. Once again the church will offer its Summer Camp Program. The first week begins July 8-12 and is open to children ages 5-10 years. A half-day Pre-K camp will be offered in July. Sandwich Sale A Sandwich Sale will be held at Delmar Church of God of Prophecy located at 35864 Traci Dr., Laurel, on Saturday, June 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale features oyster sandwiches, crab cakes, soft crabs, chicken salad and more. Annual Steward Day Annual Steward Day will be held at Mt. Calvary A.M.E. Church, Concord, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 2. The Union Baptist Mass Choir of Easton, Md., will be in concert. There will be a free will offering.

Lightning Strikes concert series The Lightning Strikes concert series, at The Lighthouse Church, located at 27225 Kaye Rd., just off Rt. 9, County Seat Highway at Dukes Lumber Road, Laurel, is held every second and fourth Saturday of the month. Divorce support group DivorceCare¨, a support group for adults experiencing the pain of divorce or separation, will meet on Wednesdays from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. through June 5, at Atlanta Road Alliance Church in Seaford. Childcare is not available, however, children in kindergarten through grade 6 may attend Awana and those in grades 7-12 may attend the youth group. Cost for class materials is $15.
