Lightning Strikes concert series The Lightning Strikes concert series, at The Lighthouse Church located at 27225 Kaye Rd., just off Rt. 9, County Seat Highway at Dukes Lumber Road, Laurel, is held every second and fourth Saturday of the month. Indoor yard sale An indoor yard sale will be held at Christ the Cornerstone Church (located at the corner of Bethel and Seaford roads) on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 7 a.m. until. There will be scrapple sandwiches, hot dogs and baked goods. For table space, call 875-5415.

Salvation Army offers new program The Salvation Army Sussex Chapel has begun a new program this year, Music & Moore for area second and third graders. The goal of the program is to help improve reading skills through Mission: Literacy, a Christian based reading program designed to reinforce reading skills learned at school. Students will also have an opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument (cornet) and to read music (theory). The program meets Wednesdays after school from 3:45 to 6 p.m. at the Salvation Army on 23431 Sussex Hwy. Each child in the program as well as up to three additional family members will receive a free weekly meal of a slice of cheese pizza, a fruit cup or applesauce, bag of pretzels or chips, cookie and a drink after the lesson. Community Lenten Services For Christians, Ash Wednesday signifies the first day in the season of Lent, marking the liturgical period prior to Easter. This year the clergy of the Seaford Ministerium will launch the Community Lenten Services on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13, at St. John's United Methodist Church, 300 N. Pine St., Seaford. Soup, sandwich and bake sale Christ United Methodist Church in Laurel is having a soup and sandwich sale and a bake sale this Saturday, Feb. 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Soups include chicken corn chowder and baked potato soup and sandwiches include grilled cheese and grilled ham and cheese.

Marriage video series Marriage can be the source of our greatest success or our greatest failure. Christ's Church of New Hope wants to help you build a strong marriage with a four part video series, "Making the Most of Your Marriage," by Dr. John Maxwell. Dr. Maxwell will identify the reasons for marital deterioration while helping couples understand the ingredients of a strong marriage. Learn about the top ten marriage builders and the top ten marriage killers along with the practical steps to take in solving the problems you face. Writing group Kingdom Writers Fellowship (KWF), a Christian group of aspiring writers, is welcoming new members. 'Fit & Fun Fellowship' The Seaford Wesleyan Women meet once a week for a free night of "Fit & Fun Fellowship." All ladies are welcome to join us as we exercise our bodies and refresh our spirits. Free Lunch and Clothing The Seaford Wesleyan Church will be sponsoring a "Free Lunch and Clothing" on Saturday Feb 9, from 11:00am-1:00pm at the St. Lukes Episcopal Church, located at 202 North Street, Seaford. Everyone is welcomed.

Chinese Auction at St. Philip's The annual Chinese Auction at Laurel's St. Philip's Episcopal Church will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Episcopal Churchwomen and is under the leadership of Geraldine Taylor. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. There will be three types of chili, hot dogs, beverages and a wide variety of inexpensive sweet treats. The auction will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Children's items, along with many good, used items will be offered for auctioning. There will be something for everyone. Special home baked sweet treats will also be auctioned. This includes homemade pies, cookies, cornbread and more. All proceeds benefit the parish. The public is encouraged to attend the event which promises to be a fun evening for everyone at very affordable prices.
