Consignment Boutique, Art Gallery The Church Mouse Consignment Boutique and Art Gallery, a mission of Union United Methodist Church in Bridgeville, is now open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All proceeds go to Union United Methodist Church. Lightning Strikes concert series The Lightning Strikes concert series, at The Lighthouse Church located at 27225 Kaye Rd., just off Rt. 9, County Seat Highway at Dukes Lumber Road, Laurel, are held every second and fourth Saturday of the month. Different styles of music are showcased including Christian rock, rap, hip-rock, metal blues and more, as well as audience participation nights. There is a $4 donation at the door and ages 12 and under are free. Don't forget to ask for a "reward card" to save on future admission and shakes. Annual fishing tournament The Mt. Pleasant UMC Annual Fishing Tournament will be held in Laurel on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. Call 302-245-9683 for more information and directions.

LMA meeting The Laurel Ministerial Association will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. The Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service will be Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel. Rev. Backus, the new president, will be the guest preacher and the New Zion Choir will sing.

Asbury UMC celebrates 200 years Asbury United Methodist Church will celebrate its 200th year of continuous service to the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 11 in a 2 pm. Homecoming Celebration Service. The Rev. George Godfrey, former pastor at Asbury, will be the keynote speaker. He will be joined by current Pastor John Hinkle Jr., the Rev. Glenn Lyburn, Pastor Ken Huffman, the Rev. Richard Bridge and Pastor Paul Isaacs. Each pastor has served at Asbury at one time in their careers. The Rev. Boyd Etter, Dover district superintendent, will join in the celebration. Special music will be provided by the Rev. Jack Savage, Arnold Smith Jr. and Darlene and the Old Time Gospel Singers. After the service, a meal will follow in the Church Hall where commemorative items - calendars, afghans and a cookbook - will be available for purchase. The church is located on Rt. 9, just west of Sussex Tech High School.

Cornerstone Shoppe The Cornerstone Shoppe (a fundraiser) is now open at Christ the Cornerstone Community Church, corner of Bethel and Seaford Rd, Laurel. On sale are collectibles, gifts, toys, Christmas decor and more, jewelry, furniture, and items too numerous to list. Stop in on Thursday from noon to 7 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., or Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to see bargains galore.

Praise & Worship Competition The 3rd Annual Mountaire - Delmarva Praise and Worship Competition is Saturday, Oct. 27, at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach. This event will begin at 10 a.m. and is free to attend. Attendees will enjoy a day of music and fellowship as praise teams from across Delmarva compete well into the evening for cash prizes. In conjunction with the event, Epworth will host a chicken and dumpling fundraiser dinner. All teams will be competing for more than $12,000 in prize money with the first prize set at $5,000. Women's Conference 2012 John Wesley United Methodist Church will host their annual women's conference on Saturday, Oct. 27, at St. Luke's Parish Hall, 202 North St., Seaford. The theme is "Women with Issues" with guest speakers Rev. Idola Batson of Mt. Calvary A.M.E. Church, Concord; Elder Audrey Hallett of Jehovah Tabernacle, Berlin, Md., and many other speakers covering a variety of topics. Registration and breakfast will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. followed by the conference from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A $20 registration fee covers the continental breakfast, buffet luncheon and conference materials.

Awana Clubs at Alliance Church Awana Clubs are being held at Atlanta Road Alliance Church on Wednesday evenings from 6:45 to 8:25 p.m. for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Sparks (K-second grade) ignites the curiosity of early elementary kids to learn about the people and events of the Bible, building a foundation of wisdom for knowing Christ. Confirmation service at St. Philip's The Rt. Rev. Wayne Wright, bishop of the Delaware Diocese of the Episcopal Church, was the officiant at the service of Confirmation and Reaffirmation of the vows of Confirmation on Sunday, Oct. 14, at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Laurel. Confirmands included Robert F. Hazel, David E. Morton and Tyler J. Anderson. Those who participated in the Reaffirmation of their Confirmation included Bonita R. Wilmer and Robert E. Godwin Jr. The Rev. Howard Backus, priest of St. Philip's, assisted with the ceremony. A reception for the confirmands and parishioners was served by the Women of St. Philip's for the confirmands and those who were reaffirmed.

Hymn Sing at St. Paul's UMC St. Paul's UMC Church invites the community to its next hymn sing on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. The October Hymn Sing will feature the music ministry of Walking Miracle (Wayne and Barbie Porter) from Symrna. Wayne, a Delaware native, will bring a night of southern/country gospel music. Trick or Trunk St. Stephen's UMC in Delmar will host a "Trick or Trunk" on Halloween night from 6 to 8 p.m. Trunk or Treat Christ United Methodist Church on Central Avenue, Laurel, will have a Trunk or Treat on Oct. 31, 6 to 8 p.m., in the church parking lot. Stop by and visit.

Christmas Extravaganza Trinity UMC near Trap Pond will host its 4th Annual Christmas Extravaganza on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors of home businesses and crafts are needed to come and show their products. Praise Band wanted A local church in Laurel is looking to start a Praise Band for their 10 a.m. service. If you love God and have musical talent, consider joining us for worship and sharing your talent. Singers, guitars, drums, whatever you can do will be wonderful. GriefShare program offered Community members who have experienced the death of a family member or friend are invited to register for the GriefShare program held at St. John's United Methodist Church. This program features Christ-centered, biblical teaching that focuses on grief topics associated with the death of a loved one. Robert Collins and his wife, the Rev. Danese Collins, will lead the sessions. Both leaders have completed additional course work in counseling the bereaved and grieving. GriefShare will be held on Wednesdays starting Nov. 7, 6:30 - 8 p.m., in the Wesley Lounge of St. John's UMC. To register or for questions, call 629-9466. Child care is not provided.
