Open Mike Christian Night Open Mike Christian Night will be held the first and third Friday of the month from 7 to 9 p.m., at The Lighthouse Church, located at 27225 Kaye Rd., just off Rt. 9, County Seat Highway at Dukes Lumber Road. Consignment Boutique, Art Gallery The Church Mouse Consignment Boutique and Art Gallery, a mission of Union United Methodist Church in Bridgeville, is now open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All proceeds go to Union United Methodist Church. Lightning Strikes concert series The Lightning Strikes concert series, at The Lighthouse Church located at 27225 Kaye Rd., just off Rt. 9, County Seat Highway at Dukes Lumber Road, Laurel, are held every second and fourth Saturday of the month. Different styles of music are showcased including Christian rock, rap, hip-rock, metal blues and more, as well as audience participation nights. There is a $4 donation at the door and ages 12 and under are free. Don't forget to ask for a "reward card" to save on future admission and shakes. Oyster/Chicken Salad Dinner Centenary UMC, Poplar and Market streets, Laurel, will hold a fried oyster/chicken salad dinner on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. Adults are $12 and children ages 6 to 12 are $6. Carry-outs available.

Semi-annual yard sale Bethel Worship Center is holding its semi-annual yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 7 a.m. until. There will be good used household items, clothes, knickknacks and more.

Annual Usher Day Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church in Bridgeville will hold its Annual Usher Day at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23. Guest preacher will be Overseer James A. Ashley Jr. along with his choir and congregation of Greater Life Christian Center, Dover. The spirit of the Lord will be in place. The fellowship meal will be served at 2:30 p.m.

Chicken 'n dumpling dinner Christ United Methodist Church's Men of Faith will hold an all-you-can-eat chicken 'n dumpling fundraiser dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the church located at 510 S. Central Ave., Laurel. Dinner platters will include chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes, dressing, green beans, rolls and a dessert. Dinners also include a beverage (coffee, tea or water). Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children. Children 5 and under eat free. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. Guests can eat in or carry out. Events at John Wesley UMC The Parish Hall is located at 202 North St., Seaford. The church is sponsoring the Dynamic Kilgue Family Choir in concert at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22. These events will be held at the church which is located at Third and Chandler streets in Seaford. Annual Writers Conference Oct. 20 Vine & Vessels Christian Writers Fellowship will host their 4th Annual "Connecting Pen to Purpose" Writers Conference on Saturday, Oct. 20. The event takes place at Crossroad Community Church, near Georgetown, from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pastor Rick Betts is the official host pastor.

John Hollis, community activist and motivational speaker, will be the keynote speaker. Delaware Poet Laureate JoAnn Balingit of Newark will make a special appearance and performance. The conference offers eight workshops designed to sharpen the writer's writing and marketing skills. Several workshops are being offered with special appeal to teen writers and poets. The registration package includes two workshops, a continental breakfast and lunch. Conference rates are youth (ages 10-18) $20, adults (ages 19-61) $40, seniors (ages 62+) $25. A 30 minute manuscript critique session will be available for a $30 fee. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 30. Thrift Shop open Saturdays St. John's Thrift Shop, located at 259 N. Conwell St. in Seaford, is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. A variety of infant, toddler, youth and adult clothing is available. Housewares, bedding and children's books are also available.

The Parent Factor A Free Workshop for Parents & Guardians of teens and pre-teens is being offered at Laurel Wesleyan Church on Saturday, Sept 22, from 9 a.m. to noon. Fall Festival King's United Methodist Church, Gordy Road, Laurel, will be holding a Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 22, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Homemade icecream, homemade soup, oyster sandwiches, bake sale, Barrel Train Rides, Gospel music by Kings Ambassadors and Jerry & Jeannie Jones.

Ark Community Picnic Seaford Wesleyan Church (The Ark) will have a "Ark Community Picnic" on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 2 to 6 p.m. There will be lots of food, fun games for adults and kids and a moon bounce. Live worship will be performed by Crossroads Band, Greater Faith Choir and the church's own praise team. Everyone is invited to attend this free event.

Do we learn from history? Come to a class at Seaford Presbyterian Church to be reminded of the history of Christianity and how we learn (or not) from our history.
