Old Christ Church service Old Christ Church in Laurel will hold their Thanksgiving service on Thursday, Nov. 24, 10 a.m.

Awana Clubs at Alliance Church Awana clubs are being held at Atlanta Road Alliance Church on Wednesdays from 6:45 to 8:25 p.m., for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Sparks (K-second grade) ignites the curiosity of early elementary kids to learn about the people and events of the Bible, building a foundation of wisdom for knowing Christ. Children enjoy the games and spending time with leaders and friends. T&T (Truth & Training) engages third- through sixth-graders by answering their questions about God and the Bible, guiding them through this pivotal life stage to grow in Christs grace. Free weekly soup social A free weekly soup social is held every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 510 S. Central Ave., Laurel. For details, call 875-4233.

Christmas Extravaganza Trinity UMC on Phillips Hill Road in Laurel, will hold its annual Christmas Extravaganza on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come and browse our vendor tables which will feature a wide array of items perfect for your Christmas shopping needs. Several vendors have been confirmed: Pampered Chef, Lia Sophia, Christmas Florals, Shortys Legacy (handcrafted wooden toys, etc.) and a professional photographer who will take Christmas pictures and give you a CD so you can print pictures and cards for your family and friends. Gospel Café Every Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. there is a Gospel Cafe in the Fellowship Hall at Laurel Baptist Church. Free Christian entertainment, live bands, local talent. The church is located at 33056 Bi-State Blvd., Laurel.

Thrift Shop open Saturdays St. Johns Thrift Shop located at 259 N. Conwell St. in Seaford, is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. A variety of infant, toddler, youth and adult clothing is available. Housewares, bedding and childrens books are also available. Check out our great prices and weekly specials.

Chinese Auction at St. Philips Saturday, Nov. 12, is the date for the annual Chinese Auction sponsored by the Episcopal Churchwomen of St. Philips (ECW). St. Philips youth will assist. Doors to Memorial Hall will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets for bidding will be sold at that time. At 6 p.m. homemade chili will be available, along with beverages and homemade treats. Door prizes will be given, courtesy of Laurel merchants. All proceeds will benefit St. Philips.

Fair Trade Festival St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Georgetown, will hold its 5th Annual Distant Neighbors Fair Trade Festival on Friday, Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This two-day event provides an alternative shopping experience to crowded malls and the bombardment of advertising, with quality, handmade gifts at an affordable price and tasty homemade lunches. All purchases may be made with cash, check, Visa or Master Card. Fair Trade empowers and assures the talented, low income artisans and farmers who produce their products, a fair price for their labor and hard work. This years proceeds will help fund programs for the Homeless of Sussex County as well as St. Pauls other community and outreach programs.

Luncheon at Grace Baptist Grace Baptist Church on Atlanta Road in Seaford will host a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, in the church fellowship hall. Open Mic Christian Night Open Mic Christian Night is the first and third Friday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m., at The Lighthouse Church, 27225 Kaye Rd., just off Rt. 9, County Seat Highway, at Dukes Lumber Road. Annual Homecoming service The Woodland United Methodist Church annual Homecoming service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13.Guest speaker is the Rev. Romie Payne, a former pastor at Woodland. The Good News Tour will provide special music. A covered dish dinner will follow in the Fellowship Hall. There will be no morning worship service.

Christ UMC hosts Jerry Jones Gospel Singer Jerry Jones will minister at Christ United Methodist Church in Laurel on Sunday, Nov. 13, at the 11 a.m. service. The church is located on South Central Avenue in Laurel. Jones has won numerous awards including Gospel Singer of the Year. He lives in Seaford, but is well known in Nashville and throughout the Gospel recording industry.

Mitten Tree at Dons Tree Farm When coming to pick out your Christmas Tree, please help Dons to help others by donating new hats, scarves and mittens for their Mitten Tree. Items collected will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club and other local charities in association with Georgetown Presbyterian Church. Mt. Pisgah AME church events Mens Day at Mt. Pisgah AME Church will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12. There will be a 10:30 a.m. service and a 3:30 p.m. service with the Rev. Steven Houston. Mt. Pleasant Homecoming A homecoming celebration for Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13. Rev. Barbara Wilson, will present the message. Special music will be provided by guest musicians, Light of Home of Laurel and Dean and Alaine Campbell of Milton. The church is located on Mt. Pleasant Road about 6 miles west of Laurel off Rt. 24.
