2011 Western Sussex Crop Walk On Sunday, Oct. 2, Western Sussex churches and organizations have the opportunity to support the needs of families, both locally and globally, by walking in the 2011 Western Sussex CROP Walk. CROP is an acronym for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. CROP Hunger Walks are interfaith hunger education and fundraising events sponsored by Church World Service (CWS) and organized byCWS/CROP regional offices across the U.S. This year over 2,000 communities will stage CROP Walks, raising more than $16 million to support over 80 countries around the world, including the U.S. The CWS also teaches communities how to grow their own food, dig wells to provide clean drinking water and help build schools so children can reverse the cycle of poverty. In the U.S., CWS is providing support to those affected by hurricane Irene. 2011 will be the 17th CROP Walk held in Western Sussex. Seventy five percent of the donations collected from this years walk will go to help millions of people around the world and the U.S. Twenty five percent of the donations will be distributed evenly between The Seaford Food Closet and Love INC. Beef-n-Dumplings dinner Mt. Zion Methodist Church, located on Route 13A between Seaford and Laurel, will host a Beef-n-Dumplings dinner on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The dinner will begin at 5 p.m. and carryouts will be available at4:30 p.m.

A night of Christian music Join us for a night of Christian music at Sam Yoders Concert Hall in Houston on Friday, Oct. 14. Dinner is served at 5:30 p.m. for those who have dinner tickets. Doors open at 6:15 for general admission and the concert starts at7 p.m. Hear the music of Donnie Sumner - a former Elvis Presley aide, Gaither Homecoming artist, Grammy nominee and Dove Award winner. Also ministering in song will be Jerry Jones - International Songwriter of the Year, 2004, 2005, and 2006, CGMA Male Vocalist of the year, and composer of two number one songs on the New York Gospel Review Chart, in addition tobeing a three time performerat God and Country Theatre in Branson, Mo. Tickets are $15 each for concert only (food available for purchase) or $30 for concert and dinner. Concert is free for children under 12. Christian Writers Conference Vine & Vessels Christian Writers Fellowship will host its 3rd annual Christian Writers Conference on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Crossroad Community Church. This years theme is Get The Word Out, based on II Corinthians 3:2 (NIV). Marlene Bagnull, Litt.D., is the keynote speaker. She is the author of five books, including Write His Answer - A Bible Study for Christian Writers. She founded the Greater Philadelphia Christian Writers Fellowship in 1983. She is also the founder and director of the Greater Philadelphia Christian Writers Conference (GPCWC), held in August at the Philadelphia Biblical University in Langhorne, Pa. She has directed the Colorado Christian Writers Conference since 1997. Bagnull has served on the faculty of over 70 Christian writers conferences and has taught over 50 one and two-day writing seminars coast to coast. In May 1999, she received an honorary Doctor of Letters for her ministry through the written word and work equipping Christian writers. Dynamic workshops and facilitators will provide participants with information on writing and marketing strategies. Paid critique sessions are also available. Rates are $20 for youth (ages 10-18), $40 for adults (ages 19-61), and $25 for seniors (ages 62+). The registration packet includes two workshops, a continental breakfast and lunch. Participants may register up to the day of the conference, however, a $5 late fee is required after Sept. 30. St. Lukes fundraiser St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Seaford will host a Night of Shopping on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m., at Wheatons, formerly Tulls, along Stein Highway, Route 20 west. Wheatons will be open that evening to only those who have purchased a $5 admission ticket from a member of St. Lukes Church. That ticket will entitle you to a 20% discount on most of the stores merchandise. The Christmas shop will also be open for early holiday purchases. Hymn Sings at St. Pauls Beginning Sunday, Sept. 25, St. Pauls UMC will kick off their 2011-2012 season of Hymn Sings. Featured artists for the evening are The Taylors with special music provided by Greg and Teresa Watson. Limited seating, so come early.
