Santa House in Seaford Santa will be at his house in the Lowe's Shopping Center between IHOP and Little Caesar's Pizza to greet area children. He is being sponsored again this year by the Seaford Kiwanis Club in partnership with Hiram Lodge #21 of Seaford. Santa requests that a non-perishable food item be brought with you and placed in the box at his house to help feed the needy in the Seaford community. Santa's schedule will be: Dec. 21 & 22 from 5 to 7 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m.

  • "Baby Bookworms" is every Tuesday, starting at 10:30 a.m. This program introduces infants through 48 months old to the world of nursery rhymes and books.
  • The "Creative Art Club" is the first Thursday of the month at 4 p.m. This program is for students in 3rd through 6th grade. A local art teacher will teach young artists various art forms through fun and creativity.
  • The "I Can Read Club" will meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. This program is for children in grades K-2. This is a chance to read great books and discuss them with friends and do a fun craft.
  • The "Pajama Story Hour," a story time with crafts and songs, will meet at the library on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. ¥ The Friends of the Seaford Library and Cultural Center want your gently used books, CDs, movies, and DVDs. Please drop off all donated items at the old library location on 402 North Porter St. in Seaford (the former library building) through March 2013.   • Calling all readers - come to the Seaford Library and Cultural Center for a month long, "Super Bowl" Winter Reading Program.   • Help the Seaford Library and Cultural Center purchase much needed books with our "Bucks for Books" program. Basket weaving class Brenda Brasure will offer her popular basket weaving class on Dec. 22, 29 and Feb. 9, 2013 and Feb. 16. These all day workshops are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with one hour for lunch. MLK prayer breakfast Jan. 21 Western Sussex MLK Day of Celebration will conduct its annual Rise & Shine Prayer Breakfast honoring the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., at 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013. Lionel train exhibit The Seaford Museum's Holiday Train Exhibit will feature many of the model trains of Lionel's Golden Age of the early 1950's. The exhibit will close on Sunday, Jan. 20. The Seashore Railroad Club will feature a running new display this year called "The Fabulous Fifties." Adults are $3 while children are free with an adult. Monthly genealogy help time Laurel Library will offer a new genealogy help time on the second Wednesday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to noon. If successful these sessions will continue monthly, and will focus primarily on getting started in family research. The first session will be on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 and will meet in the Lowe Genealogy area of the second floor. Volunteer genealogist Linda Mueller will be available to help patrons begin their search using both Internet and library resources. Mueller has taught genealogy classes in Baltimore area libraries for many years and will bring a wealth of knowledge to the area. Beginning genealogists should bring written birth, death, and marriage dates for their immediate families. Wireless Internet is available for laptops. No-sew blanket craft program Create a simple blanket throw without sewing a stitch at Laurel Library at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, in the Carpenter Community Room. Bonnie Elliott, assistant director at Georgetown Public Library, will teach how to make this cozy craft just in time for cold winter weather. A snow date has been set aside for Jan. 29. Participants will need to bring one and a half yards of fleece, scissors or a rotary cutter, and a seam ripper (optional). Santa House in Laurel The Independent Order of Oddfellows, Charity Lodge #27 of Laurel will again be hosting the Santa House in Laurel at the Laurel Town Park, at the intersection of 13A and Route 24, in the heart of town. The Santa House is just to the left (west) of the bandstand/gazebo. There is excellent parking right at the park. The house will be open: Friday, Dec. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m.; and Saturday, Dec. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon and 6 to 8 p.m.

"Delmar Goes Hollywood" gala Delmar Goes Hollywood on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, during the Foundation for Delmar Education's community gala. The gala will take place from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Delmar Fire Hall. The event will feature a night of entertainment with heavy hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, silent and live auctions and a raffle. Delmar Public Library The Delmar Public Library will hold the following children/teen programs this month. Cost is $104 per person. Wednesday, April 17 - Sight & Sound to see "Noah," which depicts the story of Noah and the Ark from the Bible. Country Breakfast Buffet The Galestown Ruritan Club Country Breakfast Buffet is held the last Sunday of the month through May from 7 to 10 a.m., at the Galestown Community Center. The buffet includes eggs, scrapple, sausage, pancakes, potato casserole, hominy, biscuits, toast, fruit cup and sticky buns. Ham/Turkey Shoot Schedule The schedule for the 2012-2013 Ham/Turkey Shoot at the Georgetown/Ellendale VFW has been released. Technician Amateur Radio Class The Sussex County Amateur Radio Emergency Service will offer a technician amateur radio license class on Jan. 12-13, 2013, at the Bethany Beach Fire Department on Route 1. The class is open to anyone interested in obtaining an amateur radio ("ham") license. Attendees must purchase and study a study guide prior to the class. The classes will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday ending with administration of the FCC amateur radio license exam.
