Spring yard, flower, bake sale Bethel Worship Center will have their Spring Yard & Flower & Bake Sale on Saturday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to noon, on Route 13, 2 miles south of Royal Farms. Vietnam program presented Journalist Nancy E. Lynch, author of the award-winning social history, Vietnam Mailbag, Voices From the War: 1968-1972, and Vietnam veteran Rick Lovekin will present a multi-media program at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24 at the Seaford Library & Cultural Center. Lynch, who lives in Bethel, will read selected correspondence from Seaford-area servicemen from her book, based on the nearly 1,000 letters and hundreds of pictures her popular newspaper column, Nancy's Vietnam Mailbag, received for five years from our troops on the front lines during the unpopular war.

Historical Society yard sale A gigantic yard sale will be held on the lawn of Ross Mansion on Saturday, July 23, from 7 a.m. to noon. The Seaford Historical Society, sponsor of the yard sale, will be grateful for any items donated to be sold. There will also be spaces available for rent at $10 each for those who prefer to handle their own sales. Tables, chairs and any arrangements for shade will be the responsibility of the renter. Items will be offered for sale from the SHS gift shops, Ross Mansion and the outbuildings that will add interest to the sale. Food will be available on the grounds. Baked goods will be available for sale. Proceeds will be used to help with operating expenses at the Ross Mansion and Plantation and the Seaford Museum. Library board seeks member The Board of Commissioners is now accepting applications from citizens interested in serving on the board of the Seaford Library Cultural Center. This is a five-year term. The board oversees the library as representatives of the community. They determine and adopt policies governing the operation and programming of the library. They develop and oversee the operating budget. They actively support library legislation. The board meets at least 10 times a year with an agenda posted a week in advance of the meetings. Board meetings are open to the public. Applications may be picked up at the library and are due by May 30. The appointment will be made by the resident judge of the Superior Court of Sussex County. Garden Day at Ross Mansion The Spade and Trowel Garden Club of Seaford will repeat its "Garden Day at Ross Mansion" on Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in celebration of National Garden Week. Little Miss Independence Day The Laurel 4th of July Committee is accepting applications for the Laurel Little Miss Independence Day Pageant. SHS plans day trip on June 14 The Seaford Historical Society will sponsor a trip to the Auburn Heights Preserve in Yorklyn, Delaware's newest state park, on Tuesday, June 14. The cost is $55 per person which includes all tour fees, lunch and motor coach transportation. The Marshall Steam Museum houses the largest collection of Stanley Steamer automobiles in the world. There will be a lunch stop at the Six Paupers Tavern in Hockessin. Six Paupers is a 6,000 sq. ft. warehouse that two brothers have turned into what "Delaware Today" calls the Best American Restaurant in Delaware. Country breakfast buffet A country breakfast buffet will be held every fourth Sunday each month through June, from 7 to 10 a.m. at Galestown Community House. 'Tydewater Band' Ty Sherwood and The Tydewater Band, will bring their love for country music to the Hub Club Rotary's annual Pig Pickin' Hoedown in Harrington on Friday, May 20. The event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Price Community Center (formerly the Harrington New Century Club) on Dorman Street. According to Ty Sherwood, living room jam sessions were a part of his life for as long as he can remember, and he grew up loving the songs of such country music greats, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens and George Jones. A high point of his military career was sharing the stage with Lee Greenwood at a USO performance in Naples, Italy. This year's menu features a pig roast, smoked turkey and a variety of side dishes, desserts and beverages. There will also be silent and live auctions. Tickets, at $20, are available from any Rotary member or by calling 335-2750. Pig Pickin' proceeds benefit the Harrington-Greenwood-Felton Centennial Rotary Club's community service projects.
