Pink Ribbon Tea October is Breast Cancer Survivors Month and the Cancer Support Community-DE, Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, American Cancer Society, and the Nanticoke Cancer Care Center will honor breast cancer survivors at a special Pink Ribbon Tea at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Seaford Library. Join other survivors and enjoy an afternoon of inspiration and celebration. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free of charge, but seating is limited. Weight loss seminars Nanticoke Weight Loss & General Surgery will host free weight loss seminars on Monday, Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 14 at 10:30 a.m., at the Nanticoke Training Center located within the Miller Building at 121 S. Front St., Seaford. These seminars are designed to provide education to individuals considering weight loss surgery to help them make informed decisions on whether surgery is an appropriate option. The weight loss seminars will consist of educational presentations by Dr. Tarek Waked to inform individuals about the many benefits of weight loss surgery. Breast Cancer Awareness Car Show Levin Clark will present the Fifth Annual Georgetown Breast Cancer Awareness Car Show on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 16 Mile Brewery in Georgetown. Registration takes place the day of the event from 9 a.m. to noon, a parade will go through the circle at 2 p.m. and the Glass Onion band will perform at 5. Last years event raised nearly $6,000 for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. This years event will feature cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors. Hall of Fame NASCAR driver Harry Gant will sign autographs. Also included will be food and craft vendors, helicopter rides, and demonstrations by the State Police canine division and mounted division. Depression Screening Day, Oct. 5 The Mental Health Association in Delaware will hold a National Depression Screening Day event on Thursday, Oct. 5, at numerous locations throughout the state. As part of the program, you will have the opportunity to complete an anonymous, brief, written questionnaire, learn about the symptoms of depression, and how to help a friend or family member who may be at risk. You will also have the option of talking to a health care professional. Screening events will be held at the following area locations on Thursday, Oct. 5 -

Nanticoke Weight Loss to host Believe to Achieve 5K fun run/walk Nanticoke Weight Loss and General Surgery will host their Second Annual 5k fun run/walk on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. at the Hoopers Landing Fitness Trail in Seaford. This event is a fun run/walk for weight loss patients and their family and friends and is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels. The Hoopers Landing Fitness Trail is located around the perimeter of the Hoopers Landing Golf Course at 1019 Locust Street in Seaford. Online pre-registration will be open from Oct. 1-26 at Cost to participate is $15 which includes an event t-shirt. Late registrations or day-of registrations will also be $15, but t-shirts will be limited to sizes on hand. Registration and check-in begins at 9 a.m. and the 5k walk/run begins at 10 a.m. Strollers are allowed, but will be asked to line up in the rear. Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Awareness walk is Oct. 2 On Monday, Oct. 2, at sunset, the community is invited to join Nanticoke Cancer Care Services and the city of Seaford for the annual Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Awareness Walk to Turn Sussex Pink and kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The walk brings community members together to honor breast cancer survivors and remember those who have lost their battle with breast cancer. Participants are encouraged to wear pink and will be given a pink light to carry during the three-block walk along a lighted path from the Nanticoke Cancer Care Center to Gateway Park, which will be decorated with pink lights and ribbons. The walk will end with a ceremony at Gateway Park that will include opening remarks, a proclamation, a presentation from a featured speaker who is a cancer survivor and an inspirational performance by a soloist.
