Bariatric support groups Nanticoke Weight Loss & General Surgery hosts bariatric support groups three times a month at the Nanticoke Training Center located within the Miller Building at 121 S. Front St., Seaford. These groups provide education and support to patients before and after their bariatric weight loss surgery and are open to the public. Support group meetings consist of guest speakers and presentations to provide information about nutrition, supplements, exercise and behavior modifications. Patients and their spouses, family members or friends are welcome to attend. Registration is not required. The general bariatric support group is open to all bariatric patients before and after their surgery and is held the first Tuesday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The post-op bariatric support group is designed for post-op bariatric patients and is held on the second Tuesday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m. The nutrition-focused bariatric support group is designed to provide nutritional support to bariatric patients and is held the fourth Monday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m. For more information, visit www.nanticokeweightloss.org or call 536-5395.

PHCN welcomes staff members Peninsula Home Care at Nanticoke (PHCN) is pleased to announce the addition of five new staff members to its Seaford team - Bruce Davis, Valerie Roth, Teresa Deshields, Ashlee Hitchens and Lauren Allaband. Bruce Davis joins the team as a physical therapy assistant, bringing 10 years of experience. Past employers include Rehab Dynamix at Harbor Health Rehab in Lewes and Beebe Hospital. He received his physical therapy assistant degree at Baltimore City Community College and an associates degree in applied science (AAS) in land surveying at Tyler Jr. College. Bruce resides in Frankford. Valerie Roth joins the team as a clinical manager process improvement (CMPI), bringing 24 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Roth has worked in numerous nursing homes, physical therapy rehab facilities and the Department of Corrections. A graduate of Delaware Technical College in Georgetown, she was a volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department for five years. She resides in Seaford. Teresa Deshields joins the team as a CNA, bringing 30 years of experience. She worked previously as a CNA at Addus Healthcare and Generation Home Healthcare. Teresa received her CNA license in 1990. She resides in Seaford. Ashlee Hitchens joins the team as an RN case manager. She brings 16 years of experience in the medical field; seven years as an RN. She was previously employed in the Med Surg/IMC units at Milford Memorial Hospital and was a pediatric trach/ vent nurse and RN case manager.

Ashlee has an associates degree in nursing. She resides in Seaford. Lauren Allaband joins the team as an LPN, bringing eight years of experience. She worked previously in urgent/primary care, womens health care and private duty nursing home care. Lauren has an LPN degree and is enrolled in an RN program. She resides in Harrington.

Diehl named assistant vice president Nanticoke Health Services is proud to announce that Thomas Diehl has been named assistant vice president, supply chain. In this position, Diehl is accountable for savings enhancement strategies, supply chain utilization, gross margin improvement, and leading change positively to reduce healthcare costs. Diehl started his career at Nanticoke in 2009 as the director of materials management. During his time at Nanticoke, he has focused on medical supply expense management and clinical integration, improving efficiencies, increasing patient satisfaction, improving quality, and reducing cost. Diehl received his bachelor of science in business management from Radford University in Radford, Va. and is certified as a Six Sigma Green Belt. Additionally, he has 30 years of progressive supply chain and manufacturing experience in multiple high-technology industries.

Breastfeeding Support Group On Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 10 a.m., Nanticoke Memorial Hospital will hold The Moms Circle, a free breastfeeding support group, in the Nursing Conference Room. The Moms Circle is a safe place for moms to come for support, advice and friendship from both experienced nursing moms and new moms. This group meets the first Wednesday of each month. Nanticoke offers nutrition classes Nanticoke Weight Loss & General Surgery hosts nutrition classes on the first Wednesday of each month from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., at the Nanticoke Training Center located at 121 S. Front St., Seaford. This class is designed to provide education to patients before their bariatric weight loss surgery. The next class is Wednesday, Aug. 2. Nanticokes nutrition classes are interactive and full of user-friendly information geared toward preparing patients for success during their weight loss journey. Patients and their spouses, family members or friends are welcome to attend. Attendees are asked to arrive 15 minutes early to get weighed in.
