Weight loss seminars
Nanticoke Weight Loss & General Surgery will host free weight loss seminars on Wednesday, July 5 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 15 at 10:30 a.m., at the Nanticoke Training Center located within the Miller Building at 121 S. Front St., Seaford.
These seminars are designed to provide education to individuals considering weight loss surgery to help them make informed decisions on whether surgery is an appropriate option. Patients and their spouses, family members or friends are welcome to attend. Registration is required.

Nurse, Employee of the Year named
Nanticoke celebrated National Hospital Week from May 7-13. The highlight of the week is the annual Employee Service Awards Banquet which was held on Friday, May 12, at Heritage Shores. This event recognizes Nanticoke employees for their dedication and commitment.
The 2016 Employee of the Year is Brenda Wood. Brenda started her career at Nanticoke Health Services in 2008 as a physical therapist assistant.
Brenda is committed to improving her patient's health while adding a healthy dose of humor to help them get through their treatment. She believes in providing one-on-one care to her patients, who know they have her full attention when in treatment.
"I wouldn't be able to do this without the help of all of my coworkers," noted Brenda. "From the front desk and aides to the OT, PT and speech staff - everyone works well as a team."
Brenda lives with her husband in Seaford. She has a son and is expecting her first grandson in February.
The 2016 Nurse of the Year is Jeremy Lane, RN. Jeremy started his career at Nanticoke in 2013 in PCU.
Jeremy works as a unit champion for staff education to ensure that staff on the unit receive information vital to providing quality care to our community. He has also taken on the role of preceptor to help educate new nurses who enter the organization.
His personality is ideally suited to this role as he makes new staff feel welcomed and included.
Most recently, Jeremy has become a relief charge nurse on the unit and is ready to lead his coworkers through the ever changing landscape of healthcare.
Jeremy and his wife, Nicole, live in Bridgeville and have two children, Mason and Kaylee.
PHCN named 'preferred provider'
Peninsula Home Care at Nanticoke (PHCN) and Nanticoke Health Services are expanding their relationship in order to provide patients with an easier transition when it's time to head home from the hospital. To that end, PHCN has been named a "Nanticoke Health Services Preferred Provider" for home care, assuring patients that they will have access to a skilled nursing and therapy team at home that can provide the same level of expertise as the healthcare team who cared for them in the hospital.
Peninsula Home Care at Nanticoke serves the region providing skilled nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapy as well as nurse's aides. Patients have 24-hour access to Peninsula Home Care support.
Better Breathers Club
Nanticoke Memorial Hospital will hold a Better Breathers Club on Monday, July 17 from 2 to 3 p.m., in the Medical Staff Conference Room. This free support group is open to anyone affected by a chronic lung disease including relatives and caregivers. Breastfeeding Support Group
Backed by the American Lung Association, the Better Breathers Club offers a venue for participants to learn from guest speakers and educational materials, socialize with others affected by a chronic lung disease, and practice skills that will help them better manage their condition and improve their quality of life. The group meets the third Monday of each month. Refreshments will be provided and registration is required.

On Wednesday, July 5 at 10 am, Nanticoke Memorial Hospital will hold The Mom's Circle, a free breastfeeding support group, in the Nursing Conference Room. The Mom's Circle is a safe place for moms to come for support, advice and friendship from both experienced nursing moms and new moms. This group meets the first Wednesday of each month. Registration is not required.

Multicultural Screening and Health Fair is July 8 in Seaford
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) is pleased to announce the next ÁVIDA! Multicultural Screening and Health Fair will take place at the Western Sussex Boys and Girls Club in Seaford on Saturday, July 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This trilingual program, in partnership with the Mexican Consulate of Philadelphia, is free and will offer health screenings, information about healthy living, community programs, prizes, giveaways and additional resources to the public.
ÁVIDA! is a multicultural event focused on breast cancer screening, treatment, and survivorship. It began in 2011 as a bilingual (Spanish/English) educational event that has grown to include all backgrounds and ethnicities, and offers programs to women, men, and children. The Seaford forum will feature blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, BMI and bone density screenings provided by Beebe Healthcare. Families are welcome. The program will also offer free lunch, free water ice donated by Rita's Water Ice, and children's activities.
"The Seaford ÁVIDA! is vitally important to members of our community of all ages and backgrounds. These screenings can be lifesaving. And, we are proud to partner with the Mexican Consulate to provide passport, consular identification card and birth certificate services," said Migdalia Garduno, bilingual outreach and screening coordinator.

Nanticoke Memorial Hospital offers childbirth classes on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Ground Floor Conference Room. The class will meet each Thursday for five weeks - four weeks related to childbirth education and the fifth week will be a breastfeeding class. The next class will be held July 6, 13, 20, 27, and Aug. 3.
The maternity education classes will cover pregnancy in general, information to prepare the expectant mother for labor and delivery, and will include a tour of Nanticoke's Mother & Baby Care Center.
A refresher course is also available for those who have previously taken childbirth classes.
The cost of the childbirth course is $50, and the cost for the refresher course is $25. Mothers are encouraged to bring their partner or support person for all courses. Pre-registration is required for either class.

Nanticoke Weight Loss & General Surgery hosts nutrition classes on the first Wednesday of each month from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Nanticoke Training Center located at 121 S. Front St., Seaford. This class is designed to provide education to patients before their bariatric weight loss surgery. The next class will be held on Wednesday, July 5.
Bariatric patients are required to attend at least one nutrition class prior to their scheduled surgery. Patients and their spouses, family members or friends are welcome to attend. Attendees are asked to arrive 15 minutes early to get weighed in.

Affordable health screenings coming to Laurel
Residents living in and around Laurel can learn about their risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, and other chronic, serious conditions with affordable screenings by Life Line Screening.
