5K Run & Family Fun Walk Join us for the Delaware Hospice 5K Run and Family Fun Walk on Wednesday, July 6, to support Delaware Hospice. Registration is at 5:30 p.m. and the race/walk starts at 6:30. The course is around the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford and through the neighboring area. All pre-registered participants will receive a t-shirt and enjoy a post event BBQ complete with beer tasting from Mispillion River Brewing and root beer floats. The course is USATF certified and Nova timing uses MYLAPS chip timing bibs. Entrants receive a gender-specific tech shirt, giveaways, and awards to overall male and female, top three in 10 year age categories (age nine and under to 80 and over), and top male and female walkers. Pre-register for $20 per person until July 4. Day of registration is $25 per person. Family/team rate for a group of four is $70. Registration is available online at www.races2run.com.
Visit Nanticoke at Riverfest Nanticoke Health Services will once again be part of this year's Riverfest with a health tent located at the Miller Building parking lot across from Gateway Park in Seaford (corner of Front and Market streets). There will be health information for all ages and interactive displays, including a teddy bear "clinic" set up for children to bring their stuffed animals in for "health care." In addition, the first 100 participants to fill out a survey will receive a free gift. Limit one per family. Alzheimer's education programs Cadia Rehabilitation Renaissance, 26002 John J. Williams Hwy., near Millsboro, is partnering with the Alzheimer's Association Delaware Valley Chapter to offer education programs to the community. Bariatric Support Group Nanticoke Weight Loss & General Surgery hosts bariatric support groups the first Tuesday of each month from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and the fourth Monday of each month from 6-7 p.m. in the Medical Staff Conference Room at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. This free support group is designed to provide education and support to patients before and after their bariatric weight loss surgery and is open to the public. This month's meetings will be held on Tuesday, July 5 and Monday, July 25. Support group meetings consist of guest speakers and presentations to provide information about nutrition, supplements, exercise and behavior modifications. Hospice offers Camp New Hope Delaware Hospice will offer Camp New Hope, a four day inspiring summer day camp, on July 5-8 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford. Through a variety of activities, campers will have opportunities to interact with other children who have experienced loss. The camp offers group projects, counseling, individual support, education, and free time to allow children to process emotions and ask questions. Finally, the camp hosts a special memorial service, which celebrates and honors the life of each child's loved one. New Hope was established by Delaware Hospice as a free program to serve children and teens during their time of grief. For more information, contact Delaware Hospice at 856-7717.
Childbirth classes offered Nanticoke Memorial Hospital offers childbirth classes on Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Ground Floor Conference Room. The class will meet each Thursday for five weeks - four weeks related to childbirth education and the fifth week will be a breastfeeding class. The next session is July 7, 14, 21, 28 and Aug. 4. Maternity education classes will cover pregnancy in general, information to prepare the expectant mother for labor and delivery, and will include a tour of Nanticoke Memorial Hospital's Mother Baby Care Unit. A refresher course is also available for those who have previously taken childbirth classes. Cost of the childbirth course is $50, and the cost for the refresher course is $25.
