Seaford Christmas Parade steps off Saturday evening

By Tony E. Windsor

With the passing of the Thanksgiving holiday it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas throughout the area. In Seaford the annual Seaford Christmas Parade will mark one of the local traditions to officially ring in the Christmas season. The parade, sponsored by the City of Seaford and the Downtown Seaford Association, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 3, beginning at 7 p.m.

This years theme will be an Olde Towne Christmas. Recognized as the largest Christmas parade on Delmarva, organizers of the parade have added some new features to help parade watchers enjoy pre-parade sounds of the season. Parade organizers have scheduled entertainment for people along the parade route who gather early to get a good seat.

There will be Christmas music performed by area church groups in the parking lot of Mt. Olivet U.M. Church, High Street and also at the steps of Seaford City Hall.

On the west side of the deep cut bridge, at the intersection of Pennsylvania and Delaware avenues, holiday music will also be performed.

The music will start at about 6 p.m. and run through the start of the parade.

The parade begins at the corner of Nylon Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue, and marches east up to High Street to the Judges Stand at Mt. Olivet parking lot. The parade then continues east and turns left at Market Street, continuing north along Market Street. It ends in the parking lot of Seaford Middle School.

Parade organizers suggest that visitors coming to Seaford to see the parade also take time to stop by Gateway Park at the intersection of High and Market streets to see the citys 24-foot tall decorated Christmas tree.

In the event of rain, the parade will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. For more information about the Seaford Christmas Parade, call 628-2828 or 629-9173.
