Charity Open tournament in Bridgeville

After raising more than $27,000 to support local charitable organizations in the second Bridgeville Charity Open, volunteer organizers have announced the date for the Town of Bridgeville's third annual benefit golf tournament. The tournament is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9, at Heritage Shores Club in Bridgeville. Registration and a continental breakfast begin at 8 a.m. with the shotgun start for the four-player scramble starting at 9 a.m. sharp. A luncheon and awards ceremony will follow the tournament. The proceeds from the event will be used to support the efforts of three local organizations the Bridgeville Kiwanis Foundation, the Bridgeville Lions Foundation and the Bridgeville Senior Center. Rick Tull, tournament chairman, expressed his excitement about the early show of support for the tournament.

"Last year's event was well-received by both the sponsors and the players. Although this is certain to be a challenging year, a number of donors have already committed their financial support so that we can be assured of another successful tournament. We especially appreciate the generosity and willingness of Allen & Rocks, Inc., whose major sponsorship contribution will kick-off our fundraising efforts." This year's tournament will have a new format whereby more players will have a chance at winning a prize. The event will feature a scramble, but the field will be separated by flights according to handicap. Hole sponsorships are available for $125. The single-player registration fee for the tournament is also $125. To become a sponsor or to register for the golf tournament, contact Peggy Smith at 337-7135.
