TRAIN CARS DERAIL - A propane tanker and several gravel cars derailed along Wilson Farm Road, south of the Wesley Church Road intersection near Bridgeville, on Wednesday morning, Dec. 26, prompting a precautionary evacuation of a handful of homes, though no spill or leak occurred. The mishap occurred just after 9:30 a.m. No injuries were reported from the derailment of the 53-car Norfolk Southern train. Thirteen cars, most carrying gravel, derailed in the accident. Evacuees were sent to the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Company and the Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula provided assistance. The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center and Sussex County Emergency Medical Services assisted the Bridgeville Fire Company in the response with the county's mobile command unit and personnel. Two large cranes lifted the toppled tanker for a complete inspection and then relocated it for off-loading of the 33,300 gallons of propane.
