Union Christmas communion

On Friday Dec. 24, Union United Methodist Church, Bridgeville, will have a Christmas silent communion from 6-6:30 p.m., followed by a candlelight service at 7 p.m.

Christmas Eve Service
Messiah’s Vineyard Church will have a Christmas Eve service, at 6 p.m., on Dec. 24, with the Christmas story and communion in the atmosphere of candlelight. The Vineyard worship team will lead in the singing of Christmas carols. The church is located at Tyndall’s Furniture Plaza on Discountland Road and U.S. 13 in Laurel. The senior minister is Dr. Carl G. Vincent and the music minister is Pastor Barry B. Dukes.

The Gospel of John
The Seaford Church of Christ, 20989 Sussex Highway, will have special sessions on the Gospel of John led by Joe Amato each Sunday night starting Jan. 2. For more information, contact 629-6206.

St. Philip’s Christmas season
St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Laurel will have the following services during the Christmas season.
  • Friday, Dec. 24, Christmas Eve service, 8:30 p.m. Holy Eucharist, celebrant, Fr. Jack Chamblin.
  • Sunday, Dec. 26, lessons and carols at 9:30 a.m.
  • Sunday, Jan. 2, Holy Eucharist at 9:30 a.m., celebrant, Fr. Larry Miller.

    Bridgeville Church of God
    On Friday, Dec. 24, there will be a community candlelight service with communion at the Bridgeville Church of God, at 7 p.m. (casual service). For information call 337-3044. The church is located on Rt. 404 near Bridgeville.

    Sounds of Joy
    The “Sounds of Joy” a southern gospel singing group will be in New Year’s Eve Concert at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Laurel. The Sounds of Joy, with their style of southern gospel harmony, delivers a message through song in a way both informative and enjoyable. They have been in concert in many of the area churches, convalescent homes, and other organizations. St. Paul’s concert will begin at 9 p.m. The church is located on Old Stage Road, in Laurel, just south of U.S. 13.

    St. Luke’s Christmas schedule
    The Christmas Worship Schedule is as follows at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Seaford: The Christ Mass candlelight service will be Christmas eve with a festival choral eucharist at 8 p.m. There will be special music and the placing of the figures of Mary, Joseph and the Babe in the creche, (The wise people will travel along the window-sills until their arrival at the creche on Epiphany, Jan. 6.) On Christmas Day, at 8 a.m., there will be a quiet celebration of the Holy Eucharist. The Christmas season begins at sundown on Dec. 24 and lasts until Epiphany. The Christmas Eve service of celebration begins at 7:30 p.m. with special music. The church will be decorated with evergreens and poinsettias; the singing of Silent Night will be by candlelight.
  • Body & Soul Christian aerobics
    Body & Soul Christian Aerobics & Strength Training will begin its winter session “Trust in You” on Monday, Jan. 3, at the Atlanta Road Alliance Church in Seaford. All ladies in the community are invited to attend. Classes will be offered on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7-8 p.m. or Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9-10 a.m. Students may mix and match classes to suit their needs. Body & Soul Aerobics offers energizing dance aerobics combined with strength training and conditioning for a total body workout which accomodates all fitness levels.     Aim for more jump, joy, jive
    New fitness classes start up on Monday, Jan. 3, and Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005 and are held at St. John’s United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, (sponsored by St. John’s but open to the public). Monday-Wednesday, Friday, 9 a.m. (a.m. only, free quality child-care) and Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30 p.m. Beginners to intermediate participants are welcome in this co-ed, non-competitive, muscle-toning, stretching/hi-lo aerobic class.     Alliance Church offers class
    The Atlanta Road Alliance Church, Seaford, is offering a parenting class on Wednesday evenings beginning Jan. 5. “Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours — How to Bring Out the Best in Your Kids by Doing What Is Best for Them,” is a six-week biblically based video training class by Christian psychologist Dr. Kevin Leman, designed for married parents, single parents, grandparents and couples planning on having children. Dr. Leman is an internationally known psychologist, best-selling author, speaker and radio and television personality who has spoken to audiences worldwide. Dr. Leman is a frequent guest on “Focus on the Family,” Moody Network’s “Midday Connection” and “Open Line,” as well as numerous radio and television appearances on “Oprah,” “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee,” CBS’ “The Early Show,” “Today,” “The 700 Club” and “The View with Barbara Walters.” Dr. Leman also served as a consulting family psychologist to ABC’s “Good Morning America” for several years. The class will be in classroom 25, from 6:45-8 p.m. There is no charge, and pre-registration is not required.
