Laurel parents meeting
The Laurel School District will hold a meeting for parents and the public on Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. in Carvel Room at North Laurel Elementary School to hear Robin Taylor from the Delaware Department of Education discuss and review the Delaware State Testing Program. This session will help explain the testing program, how DSTP affects promotion and retention, and the different types of diplomas. We encourage everyone to attend!

Book Signing at Laurel
The Friends of the Laurel Public Library are sponsoring a book signing by two local authors. Nancy Lynch and David Michael Smith will be signing copies of their latest books on Wednesday, Dec. 12, from 6-8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Nancy Lynch and Kevin Fleming’s newest book, “Delaware,” is a compilation of the best of their three books on the Delaware counties. This 224-page coffee table book will make a wonderful holiday gift for friends and family. “Delaware” will be available at a special price of $40. David Michael Smith is the author of “Stories from the Manger,” a collection of heartwarming Christmas stories, and “The Invitation,” a very suspense-filled story dealing with the Internet and the classic theme of good vs. evil. “Stories from the Manager” will be available for $10 and “The Invitation” will be available for $24. Plan to stop by the Library on Dec. 12 to visit with these authors and purchase signed copies of these wonderful books for yourself or a loved one.

Laurel Christmas Parade
Once again, the Laurel Fire Department and Laurel Chamber of Commerce will sponsor Laurel’s Annual Christmas Parade. The Parade will be held on Friday, Dec. 14, 7 p.m. The parade will begin on Evergreen Drive and proceed to N. Central Avenue. The rain date will be Saturday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. The theme of this year’s parade will be “A Christmas Odyssey.” Trophies will be presented for Scouting, Commercial, Civic, Church, Animal, Youth and Fire Department entries. Entry may be made by completing one of the entry forms which have been placed in the Laurel Library. Cutoff for entries will be Monday, Dec. 10. Call 875-9319.

Santa’s 2001 Hours and Dates in Laurel begin Dec. 14
On Friday, Dec. 14, Laurel will hold its Christmas Parade at 7 p.m. Santa arrives in Laurel. Saturday, Dec. 15, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Pictures with Santa Day. Bring your child to get a picture taken with Santa. Cost is $3 per picture. Bring a canned good (which will be donated to the Good Samaritan Shop) and get picture for $2 per picture. Santa also will be at his house on Saturday, Dec. 15, 6 to 8 p.m.; and Monday through Friday, Dec. 17-21, from 6 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 22, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
