The Laurel Library will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24 for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Laurel Class of 1990 Reunion Nov. 26
The Laurel Class of 1990 is holding its 10-year Reunion at RJ Riverside Restaurant in Laurel, on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 6 p.m. Reservations are not necessary. Cost is $20 per person. Laurel Leaf Collection Nov. 27
The Town of Laurel is announcing a leaf collection day for Monday, Nov. 27. Residents are being asked to please clean the leaves from their curb area and to place them in plastic bags. Leaves must be placed at the curb no later than 8 a.m. No other materials will be picked up. Should there be any questions, please call the Laurel Town Office at 875-2277.

Lunch at the Laurel Library'-Nov. 29 and Dec. 13
The Youth services area of the Laurel Public Library is sponsoring a series of programs this fall for elementary age home-school children, "Lunch at the Library." Students are asked to bring a bag lunch and a drink to the library Wednesday, Nov. 29, and Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. After lunch a different guest, experienced in working with youth, will be coming to the library to provide an educational presentation for the students. The schedule for fall "Lunch at the Library" is: Nov. 29 - Kathy Wootten, Case manager, Laurel State Service Center, "Who Are Laurel's Homeless Families, and What Happens to them?" Dec. 13 - Gail Bruce, Event Coordinator, Michael's Arts & Crafts, making a "Toy for a Tot" to donate to the Good Samaritan Organization for its Christmas giving. In order to prepare the library well and to have enough supplies, Jane Stuchell, Youth Services Librarian, is asking parents to register their children for the series. Call 875-3184.

Laurel Holiday Fair vendors sought for Nov. 25
Laurel Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary presents a Holiday Fair, Saturday, Nov. 25, from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. Luncheon served from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. at the Laurel Fire Department on 10th Street. Chinese Auction, Yard Sale, Bake Sale and crafts will be available. Vendors are sought, $5 per table; contact Jessica at 875-5365, Deanna at 875-4890, Carol at 875-2804 or Donna at 875-4512.

Laurel Christmas Parade planned for Dec. 8 entries by Dec. 4
The Laurel Fire Department and Laurel Chamber of Commerce will sponsor Laurel's Annual Christmas Parade. The Parade will be held on Friday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. It will begin on Evergreen Drive and proceed to North Central Avenue. The rain date will be Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. The theme of this year's parade will be "A Children's Christmas." Trophies will be presented for Scouting, Commercial, Civic, Church, Animal, Youth and Fire Department Entries. Entry may be made by completing one of the entry forms which have been placed in the Laurel Library. Cutoff for entries will be Monday, Dec. 4. No entries will be accepted thereafter.

Laurel Class of 1956 plans reunion meeting in January
The Laurel Class of 1956 will hold their 45th reunion, June 30, 2001, at the Laurel American Legion Home. Although final plans have not been completed, the social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by pictures being taken at 6:30 p.m. and a buffet dinner at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in working with the reunion committee should contact Frank B. Calio at 302-875-3770. Meetings will begin in January.

Laurel Lioness club selling nuts; raffling Longaberger Basket
The Laurel Lioness Club is selling nuts again this year as a fundraiser. They are offering the following: 20 oz. bag of Black Walnuts at $8; 1 lb. bag of whole cashews and 1 lb. bag of Pecans for $7.50. This year a new item has been added which is a tray of four kinds of nuts at $8 per tray. Orders may be placed with any Lioness member or by calling Charlotte Givens at 875-7450; Shirley Skinner at 875-4325; Billie Jane Wheatley, 875-3872. Profits from this project are used mainly back into our community. The club is also raffling a Longaberger Basket. Tickets for this may also be purchased from any Lioness member.

Laurel Historical Society Calendar now on sale
The Laurel Historical Society announces the publication of the 2001 edition of the Limited Edition, numbered calendar. Fourteen photos from the Waller collection are included depicting events in Laurel from the late 1800s till the 1960s. They will be on sale at the following locations: Wilmington Trust, Maxine's Hair Happenings, Walt's Barber Shop, Laurel Trading Post, Town Hall, RJ Riverside Restaurant, Bank of Delmarva, The Insurance Market and Delaware National Bank. Price is $9.
