Sportscard show, auction on Nov. 22 22
The Laurel Alumni Association will host its second annual sportscard show and auction of collectible sports memorabilia. The event benefits the Laurel Alumni Scholarship Foundation and will be on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. with the auction beginning at 3 p.m. at the Laurel Senior High School. Admission is $1.
Former Phillies Don Money and Greg Gross will be signing autographs. Money, a former Phillies’ and Milwaukee Brewers’ infielder, will be signing autographs from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Money hit the first home run at Veterans Stadium on April 10, 1971 during the first game played there.
He is currently manager of the Beloit Snappers, Class A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Gross had a 10-year career with the Phillies and during that time set the club record for pinch hits (117) and was a member of the 1980 World Champions. He is currently the Phillies’ hitting coach. He will be signing autographs from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Tom Brown, former Washington Senators’ and Green Bay Packers’ player, will be signing autographs all day. He was a defensive back for Vince Lombardi’s Super Bowl I and II teams. Brown will also have a table with a large selection of Packer memorabilia with many items for sale.
The auction will feature items form Phillies’ pitcher and Delaware native Chris Short, New York Giants’ star and Delaware native Luke Pettigout and his teammate Jeremy Shockey, footballs autographed by Doug Flutie, Curtis Martin and many other items from NASCAR, the Orioles, Phillies, 76’ers and Veterans Stadium history.
A large collection of cards of Delaware players that have made it to the big leagues will be auctioned, along with two tickets to a Philadelphia Flyers hockey game with seats in the Comcast SportsNet suite. The buyer will be chauffeured to the game via limousine courtesy of Comcast.
There will be chances for sale and a drawing for a 10-lap drive of the “Monster Mile” at Dover Downs.
Refreshments will be available.
Chicken and Dumpling
Laurel Senior Center invites everyone to join them for a Chicken and Dumpling Dinner. The Dinner will be held at the Center on Central Avenue in Laurel on Nov. 15, from 4-7 p.m. Cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children up to 12. Tickets may be purchased at the Senior Center during the week or at the door.
The Center will be offering for sale: crafts, baked goods, homemade ice cream and white elephants.
All proceeds will benefit the Seniors.
