Laurel Junior Friends
The Laurel Public Library is looking for interested students in grades 5-8 who would like to be part of a Junior Friends of the Public Library Club. Meetings would take place on Mondays from 3:30-5 p.m. Junior Friends would assist with Children’s Room decoration and displays, prepare crafts for preschool story hour, shelve books, replace book covers, etc. For more information, contact Miss Becky at the Laurel Public Library at 875-3184.

Book discussion in Laurel
James McBride’s “The Color of Water: a Black Man’s Tribute to his White Mother” will be discussed at the Laurel Public Library on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. Annie Norman, the Delaware Department of Libraries Acting Deputy Director, will lead the dialogue. Congratulates winners
The Friends of the Laurel Public Library congratulates Fran Wootten and Jennifer Jones. Fran Wootten won the cream colored cardigan and Jennifer Jones won the Delaware sweater that the Friends raffled off as a fundraiser. Thank you to Rachel Waller for donating these beautiful sweaters and to all who participated by buying chances for the raffle.

Laurel Cub Scouts signup
Laurel Cub Scout Pack 90 would like to invite all first through fifth grade boys and their parents to its annual Cub Scout Recruitment Night at Centenary United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Monday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. Information and pictures will be provided on the many activities available in Scouting. Laurel Library Program
The Laurel Public Library will offer a reading and discussion series titled “Destruction or Redemption: Images of Romantic Love” on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m., starting on Oct. 2. Dr. Theodore Braun of the University of Delaware will examine Gustave Flaubert’s “Madame Bovary,” a novel whose heroine seeks lovers to escape an unhappy marriage. Library closing for one day
The Laurel Public Library will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 4, for Staff Development Day.

Open House at Laurel
Laurel School District, District Office, will hold an Open House. Everyone is invited. 1160 South Central Ave., Thursday, Oct. 4, 7-8 p.m. Visit with your superintendent and administrators, tour the building and have light refreshments. Call Keith Duda, superintendent, 875-6103.

Laurel Homecoming plans
All Laurel Senior High School Alumni Cheerleaders who are interested in Cheering at the Homecoming game on Oct. 26 are asked to contact Sherri Crothers at 875-8556 or come to practices on Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m. at the Laurel Senior High School.
