Seaford VFD car show
The Seaford Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its 7th Annual Car Show on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Nylon Capital Shopping Center, Stein Highway, Seaford. New this year is a 90-minute Poker Run cruise for cash prizes.
The vent is open to street rods, customs, classics, muscle cars, imports, pro street, trucks and motorcycles. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 entries with Top 20, Best of Show and People’s Choice awards.
Vehicle registration for the Poker Run cruise is from 9 to 11 a.m., with Car Show registration until 1 p.m. Judging will take place between 1 and 3 p.m., with the awards presentation and Poker Run prize presentation at 4 p.m.
Registration fee for the Poker Run and Car Show is $20. Passengers may play an additional poker hand for $5. Registration fee for the Car Show or Poker Run only is $10. Spectators are free, however an adult must accompany children under 12 years.

Centenary United Methodist Church, Poplar and Market streets, Laurel, is planning its 200th anniversary. The following events have been scheduled:
Saturday, Oct. 12: Teen Dance, “Forever Moon,” a Lam-Jam Group. Debbie Morgan is in charge of the dance.
Saturday, Oct. 19: Church Organ and Handbell Recital.
Sunday, Oct. 20: Homecoming Dinner held at Laurel Fire Hall, at 2 p.m., with special music.
40th District Dinner
Because of a conflict in scheduling, Joe Biden will not be the speaker at the 40th District Democrat Dinner Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Laurel American Legion Home. Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner will fill in for the senator. After the dinner, an auction will be held.
Ducks Unlimited party
The Nanticoke Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold our annual Sponsor’s Cocktail party at 6 p.m. at the Seaford Fire Hall on Saturday, Sept. 28. The event’s aim is to raise monies for the preservation of waterfowl habitat both locally and throughout North America. Special live and silent auctions will be offered as well as an exclusive raffle, hors d’oeuvres and top-shelf beverages. Cocktail music provided by the Kim Miller Band. The 14th Annual Stockley Stride 5K and One-Mile Fun/Run Walk will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 9 a.m., rain or shine. Race proceeds benefit the recreational needs of Stockley Center residents. Call 934-8031.
The next meeting of the Downstate Delaware Genealogical Society will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Delaware Public Archives located at 121 Duke of York Street in Dover. The public is welcome.

The Western Sussex Democrat Club will hold a Covered Dish Meeting on Monday, Sept. 30, at St. Philips Episcopal Church, South Central Avenue, Laurel, at 6:30 p.m. Bring a covered dish and enjoy an evening of hospitality. The public is cordially welcome.
Sussex Airport meeting
The next regular meeting of the Sussex County Airport Committee will be Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the Sussex County Administrative Offices building (West Complex RT 113), Georgetown, at 10 a.m.
The 48th annual Kiwanis Club of Seaford Auction will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Western Sussex Boys & Girls Club. The auction preview will take place at 9 a.m. with the event getting under way at 9:30 a.m. Admission is free and refreshments will be available. Hundreds of items from businesses from the area will be on the auction block, including automobiles.
AARP Tax volunteers
