Fire department learns about dangers of electricity
Recently representatives of Conectiv Power Company completed an electrical safety
demonstration at the Delmar Fire Department. Firefighters at Delmar were offered
this opportunity to gain knowledge of what they could come in contact with when
responding to an emergency situation.
Carlton Bradshaw, Conectiv project engineer, made the safety presentation,
accompanied by Conectiv Linemen Charles Lewis and Steve Causey. The men promoted
the importance of using safety equipment.
They also discussed the danger posed by hot lines at an accident or emergency
scene. Firefighters learned about high power line voltages, about the coordinate
numbers on poles and pads that enable people to report location of problems, and
about the differences between conductors. They heard about the results of
electrical shock and about the dangers of digging without calling Miss Utility.
They also talked about warning labels and stickers on electrical power supplies.
