Chamber Music Concert
A Chamber Music Concert will be held Sunday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. The Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra Society presents the world-class Mariner String Quartet at Delaware Technical & Community College in Georgetown. Featured will be works by Mozart and Dvorak, and a world-premier quartet by Baltimore composer Karen Amrhein. Tickets are $20 apiece for adults ($15 for employees of any Delaware college or university), and $10 for students 12 or older, children under 12 are free. Widowed Persons
The Seaford Chapter of the AARP-Widowed Persons Service will have its next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 12:30 p.m. at the Golden Corral. The planned guest speaker will be Stephen Masten of Sussex County Airport. All widowed persons of all ages are invited to attend. Come join us — we all enjoy the trips, lunches/dinners, etc. that we do.

CHEER Anniversary
The Warren L. and Charles C. Allen, Jr. CHEER Community Center will be celebrating its fourth anniversary on Sept. 27. The dinner dance will be held at the CHEER Community Center located at the intersection of Route 9 and Sand Hill Road, just outside of Georgetown. The evening begins with cocktails at 6 p.m. with dinner following at 7 p.m. The delectable dinner menu consists of baked ham, fried chicken or stuffed pork loin entrees. The dance will begin at 8 p.m. A local favorite, The Cruzers, will entertain with music for all ages including oldies, country and rock. Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple. Salisbury Basket Bingo
The Salisbury Metro Lions Club will sponsor a Basket Bingo Party, Friday, Sept. 12, at The Moose Lodge on the Snow Hill Road in Salisbury. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with the games beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Prizes include Longerberger baskets and more. Refreshments available during the event. Donate your old bike
Rehoboth Outlets, in cooperation with the Delaware Department of Transportation, is pleased to announce that it is co-sponsoring a used bicycle event with Pedals for Progress, an award winning charity. Pedals for Progress collects more than 11,000 bicycles annually to send to developing countries. They are then distributed to working adults to provide reliable transportation. Anyone with a bicycle in working or repairable condition is urged to donate his or her bike at Rehoboth Outlets Center 3, in the parking lot near Applebee’s Restaurant on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A suggested donation of $10 per bike is requested to help cover a share of the collection, processing, shipping, and distribution costs. All cash and material donations are fully tax deductible and a receipt will be available at the collection site. Unfortunately, Pedals for Progress cannot accept heavily rusted bicycles for parts or frames. SCVF Auxiliary
The Sussex County Volunteer Firemen’s Association Ladies Auxiliary meeting and installation of officers will be held on Sept. 17, at Memorial Volunteer Fire Department, Slaughter Beach. Cocktails will be at 6 p.m., Diner at 7 p.m., and meeting at 8 p.m.
Buckmasters Banquet
The Eastern Shore Chapter of Buckmasters will be holding their 11th Annual Banquet on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Delmarva Convention center in Delmar. All money raised during the evening will benefit the Buckmasters American Deer Foundation. Much of the money raised is used here on the Shore. The evening will begin with cocktails at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Live auctions, raffles and door prizes. Nearly 20 guns will be given away during the evening. Tickets are $40 and include a one-year membership to Buckmasters. A spouse can attend for $25 and includes all of the festivities for the evening including dinner. A special sponsorship ticket is available again this year for $200 and includes membership, two dinners, a special sponsor package of gifts, a chance on a special sponsor only rifle and a raffle ticket package. Minner to speak
The 40th District Democrat Executive Committee is pleased to announce that Governor Ruth Ann Minner will be the keynote speaker at their annual dinner/auction on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Laurel American Legion Post #19. Federalsburg Basket Bingo
A Basket Bingo will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Federalsburg VFW. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Games begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Hurlock Basket Bingo
Basket Bingo Fundraiser for Relay for Life 2004- American Cancer Society will be held at The Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department, 300 Charles St., Hurlock, Md., 410-943-3110, on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. (doors open at 1 p.m.). Purchase tickets at the door for $20. Grand Prize raffle tickets will be sold for the Small Wash Day Basket and a Woven Panel Chest. There will be surprise door prizes all day. Bingo game prizes will include the Homestead Woven Memories and Tour basket from Dresden. Also, the complete Collectors Club Vase Basket and two Horizon of Hope sets will be given as prizes. Caribbean Cruise
Dr. Marie Wolfgang is sponsoring an 11-day cruise to the Southern Caribbean as a fund raiser for The American Cancer Society “Relay for Life.” The group will travel to and from the dock in New York Harbor on a chartered bus. Sailing out of New York on Jan. 25 on the new Norwegian Dawn, the group will visit St. Thomas, Antiqua, Barbados, Grenada, Dominica, and Tortola. Pageant contestants
The search is on for the 2004 Miss Delaware and Miss Maryland National Teenagers. Currently seeking contestants, the Delaware and Maryland state pageants will be held March 5-7, 2004 in Rehoboth Beach. The pageant is open to teenage girls, ages 12-18 and scoring is based on interview, evening wear, academic achievement/community service and personal expression onstage. There are optional talent and essay competitions that are judged by a separate panel. There is no swimsuit competition. Two winners in two age divisions will represent their states at the 33rd annual Miss National Teenager Pageant to be held at Opryland USA, Nashville, Tenn., in August 2004.
