BBQ set for Sept. 4
The Laurel Ruritan Club will hold a chicken barbeque on Saturday, Sept. 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at O'Neal's Antiques, US 13, Laurel. Cost is $4.50 per dinner. Rain date is Monday, Sept. 6.

Library to be closed
The Laurel Public Library will be closed Monday, Sept. 6, for Labor Day.

Lee to host dinner
An all-you-can-eat and drink "pig pickin' " dinner will be Saturday, Sept. 11, 4 to 7 p.m., at the Laurel Fire Hall. Tickets are $12. Sponsor is Friends for Lee and the event will be hosted by state Rep. Biff Lee. Call 875-7450 for information.

Bethel to honor heritage
Bethel Heritage Day will be held Oct. 2. Spaces are available for antique, craft and memorabilia dealers as well as food vendors. Call 875-5425 for more information.

Democrats seek talent
Democrats of the 40th Representative District will sponsor a Country Hoe-Down talent show Sunday, Sept. 19, at the American Legion home in Laurel from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Anyone interested in performing may call Bea Wright at 875-2674. Tickets are $12.
Council to meet Sept. 20
The Laurel Mayor and Council meeting scheduled for Monday, Sept. 6, has been cancelled. The next regular meeting will be Monday, Sept. 20, 7 p.m. in the Municipal Building on Poplar and Mechanic streets.

Club to sponsor course
The Laurel Lioness will sponsor an advanced defensive driving course Thursday, Sept. 23, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Centenary Church in Laurel. The course will be conducted by the Delaware Safety Council. Cost will be $17 per person. To sign up, call 875-2891 or 875-2452.

Treasures from trash
Baldcypress Nature Center at Trap Pond State Park, Laurel, will host a class on Earthy Crafts, arts and crafts can be made out of everyday products, Saturday, Sept. 4, 10 a.m. Pre-registration is required by calling the Nature Center at 875-5163. Cost is $2 per person.
