Yoga classes at church

Ninety & Nine to meet
The Ninety & Nine will hold its quarterly dinner meeting at the Seaford Golf & Country House, Seaford, Monday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m.
Cynthia Holloway, speaker and soloist from Asbury Methodist Church, Salisbury, Md., will be featured. Her talk will be titled, “How to Forgive the Past and Press On.” Reservations are necessary. Church to hold 9/11 service
The Rev. David Archibald, pastor of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Millsboro, and Saint Martin’s in-the-Field, Selbyville, will conduct a memorial liturgical service on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at noon at St. Mark’s.

Outdoor gospel concerts set
Victory Tabernacle Church of God in Laurel will host outdoor gospel concerts Aug. 30 and Sept. 6. “Reunion” will perform Aug. 30 and Apostle Clark and the Gospel Truth Singers will perform on Sept. 6. Services start at 7 p.m. For more information call Kevin at 410-896-3853.

Yard and sandwich sale set
Church of God of Prophecy, US 13 North and Dorothy Road north of Delmar, will hold a yard sale and sandwich sale Saturday, Aug. 31, beginning at 8 a.m. Oyster sandwiches, crab cakes, hamburgers, hot dogs and baked goods will be available.
Encounter choir to practice
The Delmarva Encounter 2002 choir will rehearse at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Seaford, Thursday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m.
This is the second of four scheduled rehearsals for the October event. The committee organizing Encounter 2002 hopes that each of the participating churches will have at least three or four people in the choir.
Delmarva Encounter 2002, being held Oct. 5-10 under the Wingfield Ministries tent in Williams Pond Park, is a united effort of area churches, businesses and ministries. For more information call 629-5542.
Gethsemane to remember 9/11
On Sunday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m., Gethsemane United Methodist Church will host a service to commemorate Sept. 11, 2001. The service will honor the man and women who were a part of the rescue team and the military and will include a time of prayer for the victims and families of the Sept. 11 tragedy. The musical group “In His Name” will perform and the Rev. Drew Christian will speak.
Gethsemane United Methodist Church is 4 miles west of Seaford at Reliance. Its entrance is on the Woodland Ferry Road.
Sharptown plans memorial
The three combined churches in the Sharptown area are planning a 9/11 memorial service on Saturday, Sept. 7. The event, which starts at 1 p.m., will be held at Cherry Beach Park in Sharptown, Md.
The churches, Asbury-Riverton-Cokesbury with pastor John Nalley, Mt. Vernon-Mt. Hermon with pastor Steve Willing and Mt. Zion with pastor Gertrude Brown, will present the patriotic program. The Community Patriot Singers, the combined choirs from the three churches, will perform.
The keynote speaker will be Chaplain Lt. Col. Don Reynolds of the 115 Military Battalion of the Maryland National Guard and pastor for 26 years at the Calvary Baptist Church in Denton, Md. He was activated to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 11, 2001, and remained on duty there for three weeks. He was on active duty at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, from January to June.
Proceeds will benefit the Sharptown Firemen’s 911 emergency crew. Refreshments will be served in the pavilion and the public is invited to bring their own picnic lunches. Terry Elliott of Sharptown is the chairman and coordinator of the event.
New Zion homecoming set
New Zion United Methodist Church, Laurel, will hold its annual homecoming Sunday, Sept. 8. The service will start at 10:45 a.m. with the Rev. Carol Sessoms Hopkins, pastor, speaking. A fellowship dinner will be held at 2 p.m., a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. and another service at 4 p.m. featuring the Rev. John Dorey from the New Beginning Worship Center, Felton. Blades U.M.C. plans 9/11 service
A commeration service will be held at the Blades United Methodist Church, Blades, on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. The public is invited.
Churches to be open for prayer
The following Laurel churches will be open Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for prayer:
Centenary United Methodist Church, Faith Healing Ministries, Laurel Wesleyan Church and New Zion United Methodist Church. Christ United Methodist will be open from 9 a.m. till noon.
Gethsemane plans parenting classes
Parenting classes, “1-2-3 Training your preschoolers and Preteens to do what you want,” will be held at Gethsemane United Methodist Church. The five-week series of one-hour classes will be held on Thursday evenings, Sept. 12, 19, 26 and Oct. 3, 10 starting at 7 p.m. Constance Hastings, counseling and support group facilitator at St. John’s U.M.C. and counselor for Daybreak Counseling, will lead the class.
