There's music in the park
The final "Music in the Park" of the summer season will be Wednesday, Aug. 30, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Laurel Park bandstand. A group from St. John's United Methodist Church in Seaford will perform. Admission is free. Sponsor is the Laurel Lions Club.

Class of 1990 plans reunion
The Laurel High School Class of 1990 is planning its 10-year class reunion to be held in November 2000. Organizers are trying to contact all classmates. Anyone who has not been contacted or who knows someone who may not have been contacted may call Alison Hastings at 875-2166 or Kelly Layton at 875-4029.

Cookbooks still available
The Laurel Public Library still has copies of The Down State Cookbook available. The book is a collection of tried recipes contributed by various Laurel housekeepers. It was originally published by the Laurel New Century Club in 1909. The cookbooks sell for $7.50 each. Call 875-3184 to reserve a copy. Proceeds of the sale benefits the Laurel Library.

Crab Feast set for Aug. 26
The Laurel American Legion Post 19 will host a crab feast and karoke Saturday, Aug. 26. Crabs will be served from 6 to 8 p.m. and karoke will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight. Cost is $20 in advance or $22 at the door. Participants should bring crab knives. For tickets, call 875-3023 or 875-9948.

Kee to sign his book
Ed Kee, author of "Where Buyer and Seller Meet - Sixty Years of the Laurel Auction Market: 1940-2000," will be signing copies of his book at the Laurel Public Library on Aug. 30, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The cost of the book is $5. Kee is an extension vegetable crops specialist with the University of Delaware.
The book is published in cooperation with the the Southern Delaware Truck Growers Association Inc. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Laurel Historical Society.
Lee at Pig Picking Sept. 9
Rep. "Biff" Lee's 13th annual pig picking fund-raiser will be Saturday, Sept. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Laurel Fire House on 10th Street. Cost is $12. Call Charlotte Givens, 875-7450, for more information.

Cheerleading meeting set
Any Laurel High School student who plans to try out for the LHS varsity cheerleading squad must attend a meeting on Aug. 31 at 3 p.m. in the LHS auditorium. Copies of physicals dated after June 1, 2000, will be required on that day. Physical forms can be picked up in the LHS office.

Ruritan Club to sell chicken
The Laurel Ruritan Club will have a chicken barbeque on Saturday, Sept. 2, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at O'Neal's Antiques, US 13, Laurel. Cost is $4.50 per dinner. Rain date will be Monday, Sept. 4. Proceeds will benefit local charities.

Class of 1956 plans reunion
The Laurel Class of 1956 will hold its 45th reunion, June 17, 2001, at the Laurel American Legion Home. Although final plans have not been completed, the social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by pictures being taken at 6:30 p.m. and a buffet dinner at 7 p.m.
Anyone interested in working with the reunion committee may contact Frank B. Calio at 302-875-3770. Meetings will begin in January.

Class of 1980 to meet Oct. 7
The Laurel High School class of 1980 is holding a 20-year class reunion on Oct. 7, at the American Legion Home. For details, contact Jan Otwell at 875-2743.

Council meeting is Sept. 5
The next regular meeting of the Laurel mayor and council will be Tuesday, Sept. 5, in the municipal building, Poplar and Mechanic streets, beginning at 7 p.m.
