Mayor and Council Town of Laurel meeting Aug. 16
Please be advised the Mayor and Council meeting scheduled for Monday, Aug. 2, has been cancelled. The next regular Mayor and Council meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 16, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Chambers of Mayor and Council located in the Municipal Building on Poplar and Mechanic streets.

40th District Democrats reorganize
Democrats of the 40th Representative District have reorganized in preparation for the upcoming election year 2000. Elected district chairman was Carol Lewis, secretary Bea Wright, and treasurer Barbara Messick. Vacant committee seats were filled with John Emory as committee man for the 7-40th, and Sarah Wootten as junior committee woman for the 5-40th. The committee will sponsor a Country Hoe-Down talent show, Sunday, Sept. 19, at the American Legion home in Laurel from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Anyone interested in performing should call Bea Wright at 875-2674. Tickets are $12.

Crab Feast & Water-melon Party, Aug. 21
Join the fun at the second annual Friends of Vance Phillips’ Crab Feast and Watermelon Party. The fattest crabs, the sweetest melons and the best of friends, also serving ‘Delmarvalous chicken’ and delicious sweet corn. Plus live music, boat rides and horseshoes are part of the fun on Saturday, Aug. 21, 3-7 p.m., Cypress Point at Trap Pond State Park. Donation of $25 per adult, children w/parent free.
