Delaware’s First Balanced-Calendar School opening
The Seaford School District is proud to announce the opening of Delaware's First balanced-calendar school on Monday, Aug. 12, 2002.
The first day of school will be a day of celebration and activities, and local, county and state elected officials have been invited to celebrate with us. At 9:00 a.m., we will hold a school-wide pep rally to start the year. At 10:00 a.m., parents will visit the classrooms with their children to meet with teachers and participate in opening activities. At 11:00 a.m., we will have a school-wide picnic with teachers, parents and students.
Chosen by over 100 parents, Central Elementary will embark on a new operation schedule proven successful all over the country. After each 9-week marking period, students will have three weeks off. During one of these three-weeks off, students can receive remediation if additional assistance is needed. If not, students have the option of participating in intersessions, extra enrichment activities, during that same week.
Often misnomered as “year-round” schedule, the balanced-calendar system will begin Aug. 12, has the same inservice days as the rest of the district, and will close on June 26, only 12 days after the rest of the district. Additionally, students will have 2 to 3 weeks off after each 9-week marking period with the option of additional help or enrichment activities.

The 4th Annual Seaford Lions Club Charity Golf Tournament is Friday, Aug. 9. Proceeds will help support the Club’s community projects such as providing eye exams and glasses, scholarships, and assisting other needy and well-deserving causes.
