Laurel superintendent announces openings
The Laurel School District announces the time schedules and opening days for each of its schools for the 2002-2003 school year. Parents are reminded that school starts on Tuesday, Aug. 27 for grades 9-12. Wednesday, Aug. 28 will be the first pupil day for grades 1-8. Kindergarten students will begin school on Thursday, Aug. 29. The regular school day at Paul Laurence Dunbar Elementary School begins at 8:40 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. Kindergarten students and their parents will be invited by letter to attend conferences and visit their child’s teacher on Wednesday, Aug. 28. Times will vary and will be noted in the letters received. First grade parents are invited to met their children’s teacher for an informal Open House on Aug. 27 any time between 1-2 p.m. Information regarding the preschool program will be mailed to each family with information regarding the school schedule, conferences and the preschool program. North Laurel Elementary School will begin at 8:50 a.m. and end at 3:20 p.m. Buses will arrive at 8:20 p.m. and depart at 3:30 p.m. Laurel Intermediate School will begin at 7:45 a.m. and end at 2:40 p.m. Buses will arrive at 7:30 a.m. and depart at 2:50 p.m. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. for walkers and students who are dropped by parents. Laurel Middle School will begin at 7:40 p.m. and end at 2:44 p.m. Buses will arrive at 7:30 a.m. and depart at 2:50 p.m. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. for walkers and students who are dropped by parents. Laurel High School will begin at 8:03 a.m. and end at 2:48 p.m. Buses will arrive at 7:45 a.m. and depart at 2:53 p.m. Western Sussex Academy will begin at 7:45 a.m. and end at 2:36 p.m. Parents of eligible bus students will be contacted by bus drivers with the location of their bus stop and the time that the bus will pick children up. Parents are advised that times are approximate, and may vary by up to five minutes either way. Class lists for North Laurel Elementary School, Laurel Intermediate School, and Laurel Middle School will be posted on the main entrance of the respective schools after 4 p.m. on Aug. 24. Class assignments for students at Laurel High School and Paul Laurence Dunbar Elementary School will be mailed directly to students’ homes.
Laurel parade cancelled
Due to a manpower shortage the parade saluting local agriculture scheduled for Aug 24th in Laurel has been canceled.
