Little Miss and Junior Miss Riverfest pageants will take place during the Nanticoke Riverfest at 10 a.m. in Gateway Park. Applications are now being accepted for contestants. Contestants for the Little Miss Pageant must be between the ages of 3-6 on July 14, 2001. Contestants in the Junior Miss Pageant must be between the ages of 7-10 on July 14, 2001. All children who participate will receive prizes.

Bethel Summer Fun

Toddlers 'Stay & Play'
The "Parents As Teachers" program (PAT) invites parents and their children from birth to age three to a free "Stay and Play Center" at Seaford Department of Parks & Recreation (SDPR) on Virginia Avenue. Sessions will be on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
The center provides an opportunity for parents and caretakers with young children to play together and discuss any parenting questions with a parent educator. Other services include a lending library of children's and parenting books and evening group meetings on a variety of topics.

GOP Picnic July 14
The Sussex County Republican Picnic will be held at Delaware Technical Community College (Owens Campus), Georgetown on Saturday, July 14, at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at Republican Headquarters in Georgetown, 856-6323. There will be live entertainment, games, a climbing wall, swimming and food catered by Onion Jack's.
Joe Biden to speak
U.S. Sen. Joseph R. Biden, Delaware's Senior Senator, will be the principal speaker at the Fall Dinner sponsored by the 40th District Democrat Executive Committee.
The dinner will be held at the Laurel American Legion Home, Saturday, Sept. 29, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and may be obtained from any 40th District Democrat Committee person, or by mailing your money to Frank B. Calio, 104 Lansing Ave., Laurel, DE 19956.
Biden, former chairman of the Judiciary Committee, before Republicans took control of the Senate, recently became chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee after Democrats regained the majority in the Senate.
Possums Summer Camp
Possum Point Players, Sussex County's most respected community theatre, is now taking applications for their 2001 Summer Children's Theatre Academy. The Academy will take place from July 30 to Aug. 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Possum Hall in Georgetown. Youth entering grades three through eight will be accepted. Tuition is $110 for the week and students are required to bring a bag lunch.
The Academy is organized to provide youth with basic theatrical training in order to provide the best experience for the kids, only 8 to 10 students in each grade will be accepted. According to Judy Dean, president of The Players, "Last year there was a long waiting list to get into the camp and we expect the same this year. I think the demand has to do with the quality of the program and the level of staff we have. I am pleased to announce that Ms. H. Barlow, will again direct the Academy this year." Dean continued, "Barlow has the ability to bring out the best in all people, but she is especially magical when it comes to our youth. This is going to be a great experience for our children."

Tickets for Possum Point Players Junior's production of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," were on sale beginning June 15. Performance dates are July 26, 27 and 28, at 7 p.m. and on July 29 at 2 p.m.

CHEER's 30th anniversary
CHEER is celebrating a big anniversary this year when on July 21 it will observe the 30th anniversary of Sussex County Senior Services, Inc. with a gala dinner/dance and silent auction at the CHEER Community Center on Sand Hill Road, east of Georgetown. Several businesses in the area have joined the non-profit agency in sponsoring the event which is centered around a Caribbean cruise theme.
The black-tie optional affair begins at 6 p.m. with previewing of the Silent Auction items. A sit-down dinner will follow catered by The Sail Loft restaurant featuring Chicken Aruba and Tortola sliced round beef. Following dinner, guests will be entertained by a floor show.
At midnight, a continental breakfast will be served before the "cruise" docks at 1 a.m.
Tickets for seven hours of delicious food, dancing and fun on July 21 at CHEER's 30th Anniversary Celebration are $50 each. They are available at all CHEER locations or call 856-5187.
