Churches plan Bible school
The Laurel Ministerial Association will hold vacation Bible school at the following churches:
  • Church of the Nazarene, Aug. 4 to 8. The theme will be Scuba. Sessions will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For details, call 875-7873.
  • Christ United Methodist, July 14 through 18. The theme will be Scuba. Sessions will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For details, call 875-4233.
  • Mount Pleasant UMC July 7 through 11. The theme will be Son Harvest County Fair. Sessions will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For details, call 875-1045.
  • Mount Zion UMC, Aug. 11 through 15. The theme will be Treasures of the Nile. Sessions will meet from 9 a.m. to noon. For details, call 875-3628.

Bridgeville service planned
The second annual Bridgeville community worship service will be held at Woodbridge High School Auditorium, 307 Laws St., Bridgeville, on Sunday, June 29, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Guest speaker will be David Manley, who will portray a biblical character. Music will be provided by community churches. Last year, about 700 people attended the service.

Ark plans Bible school
The Ark (Seaford Wesleyan Church) is holding its vacation Bible school June 29 through July 3, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The theme is a Super Cool Undersea Bible Adventure (Scuba). For more information, call the church at 628-1020.

Church to celebrate July 4
Good Samaritan Christian Fellowship Church of Seaford is planning a celebration of Independence Day, Sunday, July 6. The morning service beginning at 11 a.m. will feature gospel singing by the Cash Family of Felton. In the afternoon, the church will have a barbecue lunch. There will be swimming for the children, a dunking tank, a moon bounce, snow cones and games. In the evening, the church will hold a free outdoor concert including include a puppet show for children, gospel bluegrass, the Cash Family, the CROSS Club from the church and members of the church.
Clinic to look at diabetes
Royal Missions and Ministries, an outreach of the River of Life holds Christian Center, Greenwood, is sponsoring a series of bimonthly clinics to address a variety of health and nutrition issues. A clinic on diabetes will be Saturday, July 12, at 10 a.m. Admission is free. The center is located at 17 West Market St., Greenwood. Call 349-9420 for more information.

Local clergyman to retire
The Rev. John H.S. Wright will retire from his ministry at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Laurel on June 30, 2003. He has served the parish as priest-in-charge for more than 12 years. A retirement dinner was held June 23, at R.J. Riverside restaurant. Wright will give his last sermon at St. Philip’s and celebrate Holy Eucharist on Sunday, June 29. A reception will follow the service in the parish hall. During Wright’s tenure, the parish has experienced growth in attendance and programs as well as a presence within the community and support of Hope House. Over the past several years he has led the lay pastoral team within the parish. Following his retirement he and his wife will settle into their new home in Severna Park, Md.

Church to hold antique show
The 45th annual Lewes Antique Show and Sale sponsored by Bethel United Methodist Church will be held in the church’s fellowship hall, 4th and Market streets in Lewes, on July 10, 11 and 12, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dealers from Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware will be selling dolls, jewelry, silver, glassware and furniture. There will be decorator and collector items as well as a curiosity shop. The hall is air conditioned and is accessible to the handicapped. Lunch will be available. Admission is $4 per person. Union plans summer school
Union United Methodist Church, 2 North Laws St., Bridgeville, will hold vacation Bible school, Aug. 3 to Aug. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. Call 337-7409 for further information.
