An ice cream social will be held at the Melson United Methodist Church, east of Delmar, off Rt. 54 on June 30, 2 p.m. There will be plenty of food (hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken salad, oyster sandwiches, peas and dumplings, ice cream and cake). Mark your calendars to attend this function. If you have any questions, please call 846-2431. This is to benefit the United Methodist Women Society.

We wish a speedy recovery to Iona Whitley and her daughter-in-law, Peggy, both of whom underwent surgery Thursday evening, June 14. Peggy donated one of her kidneys to Iona. The surgery went well and we hope they will be home soon.

Congratulations to Ronald Burton of East New Market, Md., on winning the curio cabinet. The Kiwanis sold chances on the curio cabinet and the drawing was during this year's Delmar Day in the Park. Ronald bought his chance while visiting the Delmar Railroad Center.

The class of 1941 Delmar High School held its 60th reunion on June 16. Before dinner several members of the class met at the school at 4 p.m. and toured the new Delmar Senior-Junior High School. Classmates who attended were Rosalie Selby Whelpton, Naples, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hastings, Colonial Heights, Va.; Evelyn Wilson Horseman, Salisbury, Md.; Esther Lee Brown Tomaseppi, Claymont, Del.; and Leona Adkins Moore, Geraldine White Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gillis, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Adkins, Alice Littleton Price and Betty Delano Elliott from Delmar. They all enjoyed a dinner at Bonanza after the tour.

Happy birthday to my sister, Corliss Wright of Hurlock, Md., who celebrated her birthday on Sunday, June 17, 2001. To celebrate her birthday and Father's Day, she had her family over for a cookout at her house.

Laurel Saddle Friends held their Game Show Saturday, June 16. There were 57 riders who participated in the games. The events of the game show were: Plug - racing around one barrel
Regular Barrels - race around the barrels in a clover-leaf pattern
Ball & Chain - race around the arena grabbing a ball on a rope
Texas Barrels - three barrels in a row and race in and out of them
Pick-a-Lot - race in between two cones and around a pole
Each rider tries to do the fastest time to win the events. Winners receive a ribbon and if they sign up for all the events for that night, they receive points, which are accumulated throughout the game show season.
Whoever has the highest number of points at the end of the year receives a beautiful belt buckle.
The winners for Saturday's show were:
12 and under class, 13 participants: Caleb Schabach - 31 points, Brittany Hudson - 26 points
Senior class, 12 participants: Jessica Flores - 34 points, Joelle Schabach - 29 points
Open class, all ages, 17 participants: Bo Phillips - 29 points, Melissa Coffey - 21 points
AC Delco (control gaiter group), 18 participants: Terry Truitt - 20 points, Roger Littleton - 16 points, Heather Phillips - 16 points.
It was a good turnout in spite of the weather. Congratulations to all the winners.
