Signs of June:
A scarlet sun decides to sink;
The neighborhood begins to wink;
And sooner than we might surmise,
Behold! A flood of fireflies.
And so, it is that time again to congratulate all of our seniors who graduated, this year from their respective schools.
I wish them each unending success in their future endeavors.

Andy Burlingame, son of Tim and Jane Burlingame of Laurel, recently graduated from Delaware Tech cum laude with a business degree. He will continue his studies toward a bachelor’s degree at Wilmington College. Andy and his wife reside in the Bridgeville area.

Alvin and Crystal Messick have returned from a week’s sojourn to Montana and the western countryside, at which time they also traveled to Canada for some sightseeing. It was a great week for the Messick couple.

On June 26, the Tri State Chorus led by Suzanne Layton will entertain 280 members of the Laurite Epsilon Society, the Beta Sigma Phi chapter, at the Grand Hotel in Ocean City. The chorus group will present to them a musical variety show, produced and directed by Mrs. Layton herself!

Wishing a speedy recovery to Lindsay Trivits who, on Monday, had a “small” operation (tonsils) at Nanticoke Memorial. I’ll bet she will be awfully tired of Jello and freeze pops by this weekend.

On a recent Sunday Alan and Sug Whaley had a big day at their place with food, fun and games. When she mentioned games, I asked, “Sug, did you play spin the bottle?” Her reply: “No, Dick wanted to, but we didn’t.”

St. Paul’s Ladies Christian Outreach Group met on June 9 at Britt’s Dutch Inn. Prayers and concerns were discussed and supplies accepted for a family in need. The ladies will celebrate their first anniversary on July 14 with a covered-dish luncheon at St. Paul’s church hall at 1p.m. If you plan to attend, please call Betty Chandler at 302-875-3826 to advise her of the dish you plan to bring.

Congratulations to a lovely lady in Bethel, “Jo” Spence, on her 90th birthday June 24. Hope she celebrates many more!

Joe Hitchens says to tell his hunting buddies that he is up and at ‘em and will be hopping right along with those bunnies come fall!

We express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mabel M. Lynch.

We offer prayers for those who are ill: Emma Wootten, Edna O’Neal, Penny Spicer, Kelly Griffith, Virginia English, Louise Ward and June Powell.

Special happy birthday wishes to Robbin LeCates for her big day on June 17.

Other happy June birthday wishes to: Catherine Boyce, Diane Hastings, Clara Marvel and Nancy Owens, on June 18; Helen Whaley, June 19; Laura Jackson, June 20; Kathleen Campbell, June 21; Virginia Dorman, Margaret Lowe, Anna Mohr and Betty Sullivan, June 23; and Dorothy Hearn, June 24.

“Failure is an event — never a person.” See you in the Stars.
