Bi-Staters’ Coffee Talk
Sharon Cordrey

Adeline Lowe from Wilmington visited with Louise Ward over the weekend. While she was here, her and Louise visited some of their friends and just had an enjoyable time together.

Penni Truitt and her father Charles traveled to Laurens, S.C., to attend graduations of Linda Mortin’s children, Katie and David. Katie graduated from college and David graduated from high school. Penni and Linda were college roommates in Laurens and Penni has kept in touch by traveling to Laurens every year to visit with Linda and her family.

We send get-well wishes for a speedy recovery to Janet Hanulak and Bob “PopPop” Jones, who both underwent surgery last week.
Betty Elliott and Annabel Cordrey traveled to Memphis and Nashville, Tenn., by way of Diamond Tours with the Rehoboth American Legion members this past week. In Nashville, they enjoyed touring the Opryland Hotel. They also went on a boat cruise down the Mississippi River. In Memphis they visited Graceland and the Peabody Hotel, the south’s grand hotel that has been the home to the Peabody Ducks since the 1930s. In the 1930s, general manager Frank Schutt began a Peabody tradition, which continues today. Returning from a weekend hunting trip to Arkansas, Schutt and his friends thought it would be humorous to place some of their live duck decoys (it was legal for hunters to use live decoys) in the beautiful Peabody fountain. Three small English call ducks were selected to be the guinea pigs, and the reaction was nothing short of enthusiastic. Since then, ducks have been in the fountain every day. The Peabody Ducks are housed on the roof of the hotel and make their famous march downstairs to the fountain every day at 11 a.m. The ducks march to the music of John Philip Sousa.

I would like to wish my husband, Mike, a happy anniversary on June 14.
