Balloon fest this weekend
The Delmarva Hot Air Balloon Festival will take place in Milton this weekend. On Saturday, June 15, the festival, along with ten Little Leagues within Delaware District III, Sussex County, will honor area policemen, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and the military. The tribute, featuring several local entertainers, will start at 7 p.m. Providing instrumental music for the performers will be The Cruzers. Singers will include Bunky Eye, Ali Ambrose, Bob Hitchens, Kay Carpenter Dukes, Roslyn & Nashon Selby, Cathy Gorman, Aimee Parker, Ann Marie Johnson, Ty Sherwood and a few surprise entertainers. During intermission, weather permitting, the balloonists will light up their balloons with the fires that enable the balloons to fly. Afterward, area Little Leaguers will join in the festivities.

Fair seeks talented youth
The Delaware State Fair will present its annual All-Youth Talent Showcase Sunday, July 21. The showcase, celebrating its 20th year as a part of fair festivities, is open to youth ages 13 to 21. Cash prizes will be given to the top three contestants. Del Tech pool to open
The recreational complex at Delaware Technical & Community College opens on Saturday, June 15. Located on the southeast side of the college behind the Jason Technology Center, this complex features a 25-meter, six-lane swimming pool, a 13-foot-deep diving pool, a wading pool, bathhouse and showers, and refreshments. Pool hours are Monday through Friday, noon to 6 p.m.; weekends and holidays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Daily admission is $4 for adults, $2 for children ages 2 to 12, and $2 for Delaware Tech staff and part-time students; children under 2 are admitted free. Senior citizens (over 60) receive a 10-percent discount. Full-time students registered for summer credit classes at the Owens Campus can use their photo ID card for free admission. Individual season passes are available to the general public for $65; to alumni for $60, and to students/staff for $55. Family rates are also available. Widows, widowers to meet
The Seaford chapter of the AARP-Widowed Persons Service will meet Tuesday, June 18, at 12:30 p.m., at the Golden Corral. Guest speaker will be John Tomeski from the Bridgeville Fire Company. Widowed people of all ages are invited to attend.

Ducks Unlimited to party
The Nanticoke chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its fourth annual summer party at the Ross Mansion in Seaford on Saturday, June 22, starting at 4 p.m. Musical entertainment will be provided by Bitter Creek and The Funsters, with special guests, Jack of Diamonds. Short reunion to be June 30
The family of Peter and Orpha Short will hold its annual reunion Sunday, June 30, noon at the Nutter Marvel Museum, South Bedford Street, Georgetown. A covered-dish lunch will begin at 1 p.m. Families are asked to take a covered dish and drink. From 2 to 4 p.m. there will be bingo and outdoor games. A door prize will be given away at 4 p.m.

Adult Plus+ plans trips
The Adult Plus+ program at Delaware Technical & Community College, Georgetown, is offering a variety of trips this summer. Scheduled for July 9 through 17 is a trip to Connecticut, Maine, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. It will include a visit to the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, a performance of the “Anne of Green Gables” musical and the chance to view a collection of Wyeth paintings at the Farnsworth Museum. The flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest will be on display for a 10-day trip beginning Aug. 14. From San Francisco, to Victoria, British Columbia, travelers can take in the glories of the west coast including the Oregon Sand Dunes, the Columbia River Gorge and Mt. Hood.
