Welcome Home Soldier
The “Welcome Home Soldier” musical will take place at the Laurel Wesleyan Church on Sunday, July 4, at 4 and 7 p.m. The musical will feature a multi-voice community choir, drama, dance, march, video production, and more. It is sponsored by the Laurel Ministerial Association and the Laurel Chamber of Commerce.
The musical offers a chance for those listening to say thanks to those who are serving in the armed services as well as veterans who have already served their country.
All ages are welcome, but nursery care is not provided. Seating is first-come, first serve and the doors will open one hour prior to the program. There is no admission fee, but a love offering will be taken.

River of Life hosting evangelist
The River of Life Christian Center in Greenwood will host evangelist Nick Kinn from Brooklyn Park, Minn., June 11 and 12. He will speak on Friday, June 11, at 7 p.m. and have a workshop on Saturday, June 12, from 1-4 p.m. He will lead the worship service on Sunday, June 13, at 11 a.m. The center is located at 17 West Market Street in Greenwood. St. John’s bus trip to see ‘Noah’
St. John’s United Methodist Church is sponsoring a bus trip to “Sight and Sound” in Strausburg, Pa. on Thursday, July 15. The cost is $54. The show “Noah” starts at 1 p.m. with dinner at 4 p.m. Call Ruth Rhoades at 629-9466.
Christ Church Baseball Trip
Christ United Methodist Church, 510 S. Central Ave., Laurel, is sponsoring a trip to see the Phillies play the Atlanta Braves, Friday night, July 9, at 7 p.m. The cost is $35 which includes the cost of a chartered bus. Part of the ticket price goes to support youth ministries. Call 875-4233.
Derwin War, God Chaser
Appearing at Christ Evangelistic Church in Laurel, Derwin Ward, worship leader for Tommy Tenney & the God Chasers, will teach Saturday, June 12, at 7 p.m. and Sunday June 13, at 11 a.m., and then again at 7 p.m.
His teachings will guide us through the steps of pure and intimate worship.
Derwin is not only the worship leader for Tommy Tenney’s ministry but he is also leading worship at the Living Stones Church in Alvin, Texas.
He has made many appearances on the TBN Network PTL. He and his wife Terri have two daughters and have been in full-time ministry for 23 years. They have traveled to more than 20 nations leading worship and preaching the Gospel.
Vacation Bible School
Trinity United Methodist Church near Trap Pond will be holding a Vacation Bible School promotion on Sunday, June 6, from 10 - 11 a.m.
This year's V.B.S. theme is Construction Inc., in the name of Christ. Participants will build their own pizza, make their own sundae, make a craft, sing songs, and enjoy the fellowship. Registration for V.B.S. will take place following the promotion. V.B.S. is June 21 - 25. Call Michelle Moyer at 875-2563.

The Rev. Rodney Palmer
Christ the Cornerstone Community Church welcomes the Rev. Rodney Palmer as new Pastor. He was ordained in 2000 and appointed as associate pastor of the church in March of 2002. He served as chairperson of the Board of Christian Education and with the help of youth teachers, has started a new chapter of the Pioneer Club for the youth. He focuses on teaching the Bible as well as preaching the Word with his high-energy style. Pastor Rodney lives in Georgetown with his wife Shannon, who is a school teacher, and sons James and Caleb, and daughter, Faith.
Evangelist at River of Life
Nick Kinn from Living Word Christian Center in Brooklyn Park, Minn., will be at River of Life Christian Center on 17 W. Market St., Greenwood, on Friday, June 11, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 12, with a workshop from 1 -4 p.m. He will minister at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 13.
Kinn has been the evangelism director at Living Word Christian Center in Brooklyn Park since 1986.
Since then he’s seen the vision to pray with people grow from 1,500 per year, to 100,000 in 1998. Hundreds of people have been trained under his ministry.
He also works with the missions department, bringing evangelism teams regularly to Russia, Peru, and Mexico. For more information call the church office at 349-9420.
Xtreme Street Fair June 13
The Xtreme Street Fair will take place Sunday, June 13, from 2-5 p.m. at the Laurel Nazarene Church.
All children from preschool to sixth grade are invited. Inflatable obstacle courses, giant volleyball and other extreme games, roller blade course (bring your blades and pads) will be available.
Hotdogs, snow cones, and prize give-a-ways including a brand new bike. Bring a parent and register for the Extreme Team Vacation Bible Adventure June 21-25. The cost is $5 per child and includes all games and food.
VBS at Grace Baptist
Grace Baptist Church on Atlanta Road, Seaford, is having their Vacation Bible School on June 13-17 starting at 6:30 p.m. each evening. Cokesbury tent meeting
Cokesbury Church celebrates its fifth annual tent meeting on June 18 and 19. Cokesbury Church, located on the corner of Rt. 18 and Cokesbury Road, in Georgetown, closed its doors in l975 as a Methodist Church and reopened as a non-denominational church in October, 2001.
In the summer of 2000, Cokesbury Church held its first tent meeting. Five years later, the tent meeting tradition continues. On Friday night, at 7 p.m., Helen Lockwood, pastor, secretary United Methodist Church brings the message with “The Bishopville Praise Team” singing. Saturday, June 19, is Family Day with local talent throughout the day from 2-6 p.m. At 7 p.m., Billie Birch from Chincoteague, Va., will bring the message with the band, he is a member of, “In His Hands.”
