Possum Players present Jesus Christ Superstar with large cast of 46
The Possum Point Players’ announce their production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s popular musical “Jesus Christ Superstar,” opens on June 18. With Lee Cook in the director’s seat, all involved are excited about the potential of bringing this production to the region for the first time. “Jesus Christ Superstar” depicts, in its own way, the story of the passion of Christ, specifically, the last 12 days before the crucifixion. The Possum Point Players’ production has been designed by Cook to have a modern-day look. For example, this set will be in shades of black and white. With a large cast of 46 men and women between the ages of 10 and 70-something, Cook has been pleased with the talented group. “Jesus Christ Superstar” has been greatly anticipated by theater-goers and non-theater-goers throughout the region. The London premier in 1969 launched a show that was to become popular in the ’70s as a self-proclaimed “Rock Opera.” Though the story centers on the figure of Jesus Christ, it is often an emotional experience, regardless of a person’s religious background. “Jesus Christ Superstar” will be presented June 18, 19, 25, 26, at 8 p.m., and on June 20 and 27 at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and can be obtained by calling the Possum Point Players ticketline at 856-4560. Tickets are $15, or $14 for seniors or students.
