WINNERS SELECTED.Alison Willey was crowned Miss Seaford 2001, and Madison Chaffinch was named Little Miss Seaford during the annual pageant, held at Seaford High School Friday, May 11. Willey, a sophomore at Seaford High, is the daughter of Lynn Brown and Harry Willey, and Chaffinch is the daughter of Adam Chaffinch and Lori Riggleman and attends Seaford Christian Academy.

Nanticoke's annual dinner Saturday
- Nanticoke Memorial Hospital's 15th Annual Dinner and Auction is Saturday, May 19, at the Seaford Golf & Country Club. This event will include a buffet dinner prepared by Country Club and an anniversary cake by Karen Kittila of Seaford.
The Silent and Chinese auctions will run through cocktails and dinner, while the live auction will begin at 8 p.m.
Included in the auction will be hand-painted watercolors, paintings by local artists, Superbowl Champion Baltimore Ravens tickets, getaways to Broadkill Beach and Williamsburg, Va., jewelry, golf packages and furniture with needlepoint inlay. Nearly 100 items will be available.
Tickets are available by calling any committee member or Renee' Morris at the hospital, 629-6611, ext. 2404.
Purchase price is $50 per person, which includes a $25 tax deduction.
Laurel accident victims recovering
- Jean W. Ulysse, 47, of 121 Brooklyn Avenue, Laurel, was charged with operating an unsafe vehicle with bad brakes following an accident Friday, May 11, on Central Avenue, Laurel.
Laurel Police said Ulysse's car was parked along Central Avenue with the emergency brake on, but the car drifted backwards and trapped a 20-year-old woman and her 4-year-old child against a building.
The mother was flown to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury and the child was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford and later flown to Christiana Hospital. Police said both are listed in fair condition.
Make your 911 call count
- The Delaware State Police Sussex County 911 Center and Sussex County Emergency Operations Center will be hosting a "Community Awareness" Event May 17. The event will be held at the Sussex County 911 Center from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.
This will be the "Kick Off to Summer Safety" and will include displays including bike safety, K-9 demonstrations, Vince and Larry the Crash Dummies, Smokey the Bear, Sergeant Dan, tours of the 911 operations facility and food and beverages.
Those attending will learn invaluable information on how to make their 911 call count. The location is 100 Airport Road, Georgetown.
