Congratulations to Kasey and Brad Joseph on the birth of their daughter, Mary Jane. She was born Saturday, May 3, weighing 7 pounds 2 and 1/2 ounces and 20 and 1/2 inches long. The proud grandmother is Janet Outten Hanulak and great-grandmother is Delores Jones. I hear she has lots of hair and is beautiful.
The Friends of the Delmar Library will sponsor a book and bake sale Saturday, May 10, 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. at the library at 101 North Bi-State Blvd. across from the Delmar Fire House. There will be lots of books and delicious baked goods.
Thursday, May 15, 6:30 p.m., the Delmar Library will hold a “Super Hero” night. Bring your blanket or cushion to sit on and enjoy the night at the movies watching “Under Dog.” The first 45 children will be given a special handout. So mark your calendars for this special night.
The 12th annual Community Prayer Breakfast will be Saturday, May 17, 9 a.m. at the Melson Church Community Hall. Tickets are $7 for breakfast. The prayer breakfast is sponsored by the Delmar Kiwanis Club. See any Kiwanis member for tickets.

Special congratulations to Kyle Dykes for winning the District 1 “If I Were Mayor, I Would...” essay contest. District 1 includes all of Wicomico, Somerset, Worcester and Dorchester counties. Kyle was presented a plaque by Lynn Raufaste, president of the Maryland Municipal League, and a citation by Maryland Gov. Robert Ehrilich.
Mayor Douglas Niblett traveled to Annapolis for the presentation ceremony and presented Kyle with a citation of congratulations from the Delmar Maryland and Delaware Joint Councils. Kyle also was invited to attend a Bowie Bay Socks ball game where he read part of his essay and received a $250 savings bond.
Kyle is in the fourth grade at Delmar Maryland Elementary School and is the son of Scott and Shelly Dykes and grandson of Jimmy and Shirley Davis, Delmar.
Congratulations to Karen Lewis on being selected as the Delmar Middle and Senior High School’s 2003-2004 Teacher of the Year. Karen teaches special education in the middle school intensive learning center.
Delmar Middle and Senior High School held a program on Thursday during which volunteers were honored and thanked. Principal Mark A. Holodick thanked all the volunteers for their service to the school and presented certificates of thanks to Denise Ward, Lillian Wootten, Jessie Calloway, Anne Jones, Karen Lewis, Keith Jones, Margie Phillips, Shirley Porter, Jean Ellis, Madeline Hudson and John Ward.
The following students are former members of the Middle Level Geography Club and through their fund-raising efforts, trees were purchased to landscape the school grounds: Matt Caffey, Rebecca Gum, Jason Hearn, Melissa Hovatter, Tracey Lloyd, Caitlin Rimkis, Ashley Campbell, Danielle Dykes, Chris Golliday, Arden Lambert, Nathan Newberry, Josh Scotton, Kristin Wheatley and Lisa Wright.
Their work led to the new tree donations from the Department of Natural Resources.

Delmar Book, Bake Sale
Book and Bake Sale sponsored by the Delmar Friends of the Library will be held on Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. til 3 p.m. at the Delmar Public Library. The library is located at 101 North Bi-State Blvd. across from the Delmar Fire Department. There will be lots of books plus many types of delicious baked goods. All monies raised will be used for the benefit of the Delmar Public Library and all who use the library.

Delmar Prayer Breakfast

The Delmar Public Library will be closed all day on Wednesday, May 14. The staff will be involved with a staff development workshop at that time learning new skills to help with the public’s reference needs. Any materials can be returned through the front door book drop.
Delmar teacher of year selected
Karen Lewis has been selected as the Delmar Middle and Senior High School 2003-2004 Teacher of the Year.
Lewis is a special education teacher in the Intensive Learning Center at the Delmar Middle School.
