Library to host events
Extension agent Jay Windsor will speak on container gardening Wednesday, May 2, 7 p.m., at the Seaford library. Between May 1 and May 12, children are invited to stop by the library to make a Mother's Day craft. On May 8, at 7 p.m., the library will host a workshop on how to handle a retirement plan distribution for early retirement. Admission is free. For reservations, call 856-4506. The Friends of the Seaford Library will hold a yard sale Saturday, May 19, 8 to noon. Donated items may be taken to the meeting room Thursday or Friday, May 17 or 18.

Downtown yard sale set
A community yard sale will be held in downtown Seaford Saturday, May 5, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. For details or to reserve a space, call Jane Short at 629-7097. Tables cost $10.

TRIAD to meet May 10
The Western Sussex County TRIAD will meet Thursday, May 10, 10 a.m., at the Nanticoke Senior Center, 310 Virginia Ave., Seaford. The topic will be transients and con-artists.

Talk to feature old photos
Kendal Jones, Laurel, will speak Thursday, May 10, 7:30 p.m. at the Seaford Museum on New Street. He will present Seaford photographs that he salvaged from Waller Studio glass plates and gelatin slides. The studio operated in Laurel from 1897 to 1970. Admission is free. For details, call 875-5678.

Barbecue to benefit class
There will be a chicken barbecue fund-raiser to benefit the class of 2003 of the Seaford High School on Saturday, May 19, at the Cock and Bull US 13 South) in Seaford. Dinners will be sold from 11 a.m. until sold out and will cost $5. The price includes one-half of a chicken, sides, and a beverage.

Kiwanis basket bingo set
The Kiwanis Club of Seaford will have a basket bingo featuring Longaberger baskets Saturday, May 5, at the Western Sussex Boys and Girls Club, Seaford. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance (includes a free raffle ticket) and $25 at the door. Longaberger door prizes will be awarded following each game. Additional cards, raffle tickets and refreshments will be available. Participants must be 18. Tickets are available from Kiwanis Club members and at Tull's and Soil Service. Basket bingo will benefit police
The Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 9, will hold Longaberger basket bingo Thursday, May 17, 7 p.m. at the VFW, Middleford Road, Seaford. The evening will consist of 20 games and will feature several basket combinations, including Father's Day, All-American, Collectors Club Harmony #2 and regular baskets as prizes. Tickets are $20, $25 at the door. Advance tickets include chances on a large hamper and door prizes. Refreshments will be served. For details, call 628-5352.

Car show set for Saturday May 5
The Seaford Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its sixth annual car show Saturday, May 5, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the corner of Atlanta Road and Fleetwood Drive in Seaford.The event is open to antiques, classics, street rods, pro-street cars and trucks, imports and motorcycles. Dash plaques will be given to the first 150 entries and awards handed out. Musical entertainment and food vendors will be on hand.Vehicle registration is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Judging will take place between 1 and 3 p.m. with the awards presentation at 4 p.m. Vehicle registration is $5. Spectator admission is $2 with children under 12 accompanied by an adult free. For details, call 629-6934.
