Prayer breakfast planned
The Bridgeville Community Prayer Breakfast, sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Bridgeville, will be Saturday, May 4, 8 a.m., at Union United Methodist Church, 2 North Laws St., Bridgeville. Admission is $7. Tickets are available at Scott’s Furniture, 337-8274.

Flower fair set for May 4
Gethsemane United Methodist Church will have a flower fair (rain or shine) Saturday, May 4, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mother’s Day gifts, hanging baskets, bedding plants, geraniums, bushes and herbs will be available. Lunch will be for sale, as well as homemade ice cream and baked goods. There will also be a free blood pressure check. Gethsemane is located 4 miles west of Seaford at the corner of Delaware 20 and Woodland Road, near Reliance. For more information call 629-9161.

Fire chaplain to speak
Dr. Leonard N. Smith, chaplain of the Arlington County (Va.) Fire Department, will be the featured speaker at the 25th annual Sussex County Prayer Breakfast Tuesday, May 7, 7:30 a.m., at the Cheer Center in Georgetown. The Arlington County Fire Department was the primary responding agency to the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the Pentagon. As fire department chaplain, Smith served both at the scene and in the aftermath of the tragedy, providing spiritual support to responders from the military, the FEMA Task Force, and police and fire departments from throughout the Washington Metropolitan area, as well as to his own department. Smith has been senior pastor of the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Arlington since 1991. Under his leadership, the membership of the church has grown 300 percent to more than 1,500. The Cheer Center is located at 20520 Sand Hill Road, off of West Market Street in Georgetown. Day of prayer to be marked
National Day of Prayer will be celebrated on Thursday, May 2. Community prayer services will be held at 5 p.m. at the Bridgeville Historical Society Park, Delaware Avenue and Williams Street, Bridgeville, and at 7 p.m. at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Seaford.

Church to host yard sale
The Seaford Presbyterian Church will hold a yard and bake sale Saturday, May 4, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The church is on alternate US 13 north, next to the Army Reserve Center, Seaford. Starting at 11 a.m., hot dogs and other food will be sold.

Introducing Pickle Ministry
A concert introducing “Pickle Ministry” through the music of Cornerstone Notes Tami Hastings, Becky Joseph and Bryan Rice will be Sunday, May 5, 7 p.m. at Christ the Cornerstone Community Church, 28714 Seaford Road, Laurel. For information call Vivian at 875-8150 or 875-5415.

Spaghetti dinner planned
The Promise Keepers will serve an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner Saturday, May 11, 4 to 7 p.m., at Centenary United Methodist Church, Poplar and Market streets, Laurel. Cost is $5 for adults; $3 for ages 6-12; and free for children under 6.
Outdoor gospel sing May 25
An outdoor gospel singing and Memorial Day tribute will be Saturday, May 25, at the Victory Tabernacle Church of God, south of Blades on alternate US 13. There will be a flag raising ceremony at 1 p.m. The event is free of charge and will continue until 8 p.m. There will also be a concession stand. For information call 410-896-3853 or 302-629-6199.

Country gospel concert set
A country gospel concert featuring O’Neal Dean and the Sacred Sounds will be Sunday, May 5, 2:30 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 6304 Eldorado Road (Maryland 313) about 1 mile south of intersection of routes 313 and 392.

Free meals served in Laurel
The Greater Laurel Ministerium serves a meal for those in need every Friday evening, 6 to 7:30, at Centenary United Methodist Church, West and Poplar streets. The meal is a free outreach ministry of the churches of Laurel, providing not only a hot meal, but a brief devotional as well. For more information call 875-4233 from 9 a.m. to noon. New Zion United Methodist Church, West 6th Street, Laurel, serves lunch every Wednesday for those in need.

Portsville to mark 170 years
Bishop Peter D. Weaver of the United Methodist Church will celebrate Portsville United Methodist Church’s 170th anniversary Sunday, May 5, at 3:30 p.m. Portsville Church, on Dogwood Lane west of Bethel, is one of the oldest Methodist Protestant churches in Sussex County. There will also be presentation of several proclamations from local elected officials. Following the service, there will be a fellowship dinner. Gospel music at Woodland

Pregnancy center gets gift The Sussex Pregnancy Care Center is in the process of extending its services by offering free sonogram technology for verification of pregnancy to young women. National Christian Foundation, on the recommendation of Mr. and Mrs. Foster Friess, initiated the first phase of the medical conversion with a gift of $10,000. Once confirmation of pregnancy is complete it qualifies young women to apply for medical help and doctor’s care. Sonograms detect pregnancy at six weeks. The center has served the community for 17 years, providing free pregnancy tests, education and support. Contributions may be sent to SPCC, 5 Burger King Drive, Georgetown, DE 19947. Church to host hymn sing
St. George’s United Methodist Church, St. George Road between Laurel and Delmar, will host a hymn sing featuring Everett Warrington Sunday, May 5, 7 p.m. A covered-dish dinner at the church will start at 6 p.m.
