Class of 1990 plans reunion
The Laurel High School Class of 1990 is planning its 10-year class reunion for November 2000. Classmates who have not been contacted may call Alison Hastings at 875-2166 or Kelly Layton at 875-4029.

Legion offering scholarships
American Legion Auxiliary Unit #19 has two $500 scholarships available for deserving seniors at Laurel High School. Applications must be requested from Sheila Littleton, auxiliary president, 875-4354. Application deadline is May 1.

Watercolors to be on exhibit
During April, the Laurel Public Library and Travel Perks (The Coffee House at Laureltowne) will host an exhibit of watercolor paints and drawings by Salisbury artist Ellen Lawler. Lawler, department chair of biological sciences at Salisbury State University, has combined her interests in nature and art in these works which depict some of the many species of birds found on Delmarva - as well as still life paintings.
Lawler has taught at SSU and lived in Salisbury for the past 12 years. During that time, she has become well acquainted with the various birds and other wildlife present on the Eastern shore.

Seminar to focus on birding
The Baldcypress Nature Center at Trap Pond State Park, Laurel, will host the following programs:
• Trussum Pond Canoe Exploration, Saturday, April 15, 2 p.m. Participants will observe reptiles as they emerge from their winter hibernation, waterfowl, and a variety of wildlife. No experience necessary. pre-registration is required. The trip will last three hours and cost $10 per person.
• Dapper Eggs, Saturday, April 22, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Local Ukrainian egg artist, Sally Bowman, will teach creative twists to painting eggs. Advance registration is required. The $5 fee includes all materials.
• Turtle Trek, Saturday, April 22, 3 p.m. Participants will take a pontoon trip on Trap Pond to search for turtles as they bask in the spring sunlight. Pre-registration is required. Cost is $3 per adult, $1.50 per child 12 and under.
• Birding By Boat, Saturday, April 29, 9 a.m. A one-hour cruise in search of rare warblers and wading birds. Pre-registration is required. Cost is $3 per adult, $1.50 per child 12 and under.
• Creatures of the Pond, Saturday, April 29, 1 p.m. Participants will use a plankton tow on the park's pontoon boat to scoop up plankton. Then they will capture even more marine life with a seine net. Pre-registration required.

Library to be closed April 21
The Laurel Public Library will be closed Friday, April 21, for Good Friday. It will reopen Saturday, April 22, 10 a.m.
Class of '60 seeks classmate
The Laurel High School Class of 1960 is planning its 40th reunion, Saturday, June 24, at the Laurel American Legion Home. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., class picture at 6:30 p.m., and dinner at 7 p.m.
The cost of the buffet dinner is $17 per person, and class pictures are $10 each. A tour of the old high school will begin at 1 p.m. the day of the reunion.

Kindergarten registration today
Laurel School District kindergarten registration will be Thursday, April 13, 5 to 8 p.m., for children who will turn 5 on or before Aug. 31.
Only custodial parents or legal guardians may enroll a child. In order to register, parents must present the child's birth certificate and updated immunization record. The child's social security and medical cards are also requested, as are any custody papers that may exist for the child.
Prior to the first day of school the child is required to have a physical examination at which time he or she will be given any immunizations needed. At registration, parents will be given a form to be completed by the physician.
Registration takes approximately one hour. It is not necessary to bring the child.

Cheerleaders to host show
The Laurel All-Star Cheerleaders will hold their third annual show Saturday, April 15, 6 p.m. at Laurel High School. Tickets are $5 adults and $3 for children under 12.
Advance tickets can be purchased by phoning Sue Matthews at 875-2832.

Alumni to host bingo games
The Laurel Alumni Association will host basket bingo Tuesday, April 18, 7 p.m., at the Laurel Fire Hall. Tickets are $20 and include three bingo cards for each game. There will be a drawing for a large hamper with lid and free refreshments will be served at intermission. Call Janet Morgan at 875-7591 for tickets.

Dessert card party planned
Laurel New Century Club will host a dessert card party Monday, May 1, 1 p.m. till 4 p.m., at Centenary Church Fellowship Hall. Participants can make up their own tables.
Refreshments and door prizes will be given. Cost is $5 per person.
