Lions Club Variety Show March 23-25
The Laurel Lions Club 39th Annual Variety Show, "Celebration 2000" will be held at the Laurel High School, "Howard Elliott Gymnasium," on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 23, 24 and 25; showtime at 7:30 p.m. Get your tickets early - adults $5, children 5-12, $4.
They can be purchased from any Lion member, O'Neal's Jewelry Store, Laurel Petroleum, Dr. Adiarte's office or by calling 875-7767.

Peninsula Bluegrass Show March 25
A Peninsula Bluegrass Show and Pick-In, at Laurel American Legion Post 19, will be held on Saturday, March 25, starting at 6 p.m. untilÉ? Featured will be Whaley's Corner and The Bob Paisley Band.
A Pick-In will begin at 9:30 p.m. Cost is $5 for Peninsula Bluegrass members and $7 for all others. Refreshments will be served.

Lions collect eye glasses
During March the Laurel Lions Club will collect used eye glasses which are combined with collections from other Lions Clubs, organized into prescription categories, and then distributed to indigent people in Latin America.
Following are eyeglass collection stations in the Laurel area: Bank of Delmarva, Wilmington Trust, Delaware National Bank, Good Samaritan Shop, Laurel Senior Center, Happy Harry's, Drs. Adiarte, Cargo, and Stout.
The Lions encourage anyone having unused glasses to deposit them at any of the above collection stations.

Chesapeake Bay series
This Chesapeake Bay series details the environmental threats to this region and evaluates the impact on the people who work the water. Meetings are on Thursdays, 7-9 p.m., at Travel Perks, Laureltowne.
The Laurel Public Library is sponsoring the series which is partially funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the State of Delaware.
A bus trip/tour in conjunction with this series is being planned. Call the library for more details, 875-3184.

St. Patrick's Day songs
Irish folk-songs and traditional music will be offered at the Laurel Public Library on Friday evening, March 17. Everett Hart of Laurel and Mary Ann Torkelson of Seaford will present a program of harmonica/keyboard duets and solos. The program will last 30 minutes and refreshments will be served. Call the library (875-3184) for details.

Tax help on March 21
The Laurel Public Library will be offering tax assistance through AARP, on Tuesdays, 11 and 11:30 a.m. Call 875-3184 to set up an appointment or register at the library!

Miss and Little Miss contests
The annual Miss Laurel and Little Miss Laurel contests are set for April 18, with the deadline for signing up April 1. The Exchange Club has done this for many years. Applications are in the library, at Todd's Tax Service on Poplar Street and at the high school.

Delaware SPCA at library
On Wednesday, March 22, the Laurel Public Library will host Scott Vogel, director of Humane Education for the Delaware SPCA, for two children's animal programs. At 1 p.m., Vogel will perform "Sharing Sam," a lively puppet and flannel-board story for preschool and kindergarten age children. At 4 p.m., he will talk to children from grades 4-12 about responsible pet care.

Library sponsors Llamas
On Thursday, March 23, at 3 p.m., Ellen Dunn of the Diamond State Llama Farm will have several llamas at Market Square Park in a program sponsored by the Laurel Public Library.
Beginning with two llamas five years ago, Mrs. Dunn's herd has grown to about 50 animals of varying sizes, colors and ages. The public is invited.
