The Miss Laurel and Little Miss Laurel contests are set for April
18, with the deadline for signing up April 1. The Exchange Club is
the sponsor. Applications are in the library, at Todd's Tax Service
on Poplar Street and at the high school.
Youth group to hold car wash
Nzone Youth Ministries of the Laurel Church of the Nazarene will hold
a car wash Saturday, March 11, 8 to 11:30 a.m. Cost is $5.
Park to host programs
The Baldcypress Nature Center at Trap Pond State Park, Laurel, has
planned the following programs:
March Migrants, March 11, 8 a.m. Birders will explore Trap
Pond's woodlands in search of bluebirds, pine warblers, flickers and
phoebes as they return from the south.
Tombstone Tour, March 11, 1 p.m. Participants will visit grave
sites near the park and discover more about the people of Trap Pond's
Nature Journaling, March 18, 10 a.m. Participants will learn
various techniques of field study. Journals will be provided. Cost

Portsville Church United Methodist Women will sponsor a chicken and
dumpling dinner Saturday, March 11, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the church
The cost is $6.50 for adults; $3 for children 6 to 12 years; and free
for children under 6.
The church is located 3 miles west of Laurel at the intersection of
Kenney and Portsville roads.
Garden club to meet
The Laurel Garden Club will meet Sunday, March 12, 1:45 p.m. at St.
Philip's Church. Carrie Geyer of Eccentricity and Gene Mott will do
a demonstration of Ikebana, flower arrangement as art.

Variety show set for March
The Laurel Lions Club 39th annual Variety Show, "Celebration 2000,"
will be held at the Laurel High School Thursday, Friday and Saturday,
March 23, 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m.
Admission for adults is $5, and for children 5-12, $4. Tickets can
be purchased from any Lion member or at O'Neal's Jewelry Store, Laurel
Petroleum, Dr. Adiarte's office or by calling 875-7767.
