Historical Society program
The Seaford Historical Society program that had to be cancelled because of the snowstorm has been reschedule for Monday, March 10.
The meeting will be held at the Seaford Museum (formerly post office) on High Street at 7 p.m.
Valerie Petty Boyer incorporates stirring and soulful singing into a monologue about life in the days of the Civil War. She introduces listeners to Negro spirituals, most of them created during slavery when black slaves were forced to work for their masters in the midst of their heartaches. The music helped them survive their ordeal.
Boyer is a native Delawarean, a former American History teacher and a professionally trained singer. She has performed with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society in West Chester, Pa. and has been a member of the Hildaman Chorale in Wilmington. She completed undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Delaware and studied abroad at the University of Salzburg in Austria.
The public is invited with no charge but seating is limited. This program is funded by Delaware Humanities Forum.
