Prayer breakfast for women
Foggie AME Zion Church, Bridgeville, will hold its second annual Women’s Prayer Breakfast Saturday, Feb. 9, 9 a.m. The theme is “Women Standing on Holy Ground.” Keynote speaker will be co-pastor, Ruth Flowers, Family Enrichment Worship Center, Laurel. All youth invited
Fire Of The Spirit Youth Night, presented by Jericho Fellowship International Inc. for youth, will be Tuesday, Feb. 12, 7 p.m., at Mt. Olivet Church, High Street, Seaford. Shrove Tuesday supper set
The Sunday school department of Centenary United Methodist Church, Poplar and Market streets, Laurel, is sponsoring a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, Tuesday, Feb. 12, 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 4 to 12 years old. Children 3 and under will be admitted free.
Planning for Day of Prayer
There will be a planning session Thursday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m., at Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Reliance, for the World Day of Prayer Service. Gethsemane will host the service this year on March 1 at 10 a.m. The World Day of Prayer is an annual ecumenical service, held globally, that promotes world peace and solidarity for Christians throughout the world. It is sponsored by Church Women United. Churches that are interested in helping to plan or to participate in the service may send representatives from their women’s group to this planning session. Celebrating past, black history
New Zion United Methodist Church, 430 West 6th St., Laurel, will host a celebration of Laurel’s bicentennial and black history Saturday, Feb. 16, at 6 p.m. The theme will be “Celebrating our Heritage, Embracing Our Future,” featuring speaker Dr. Rev. Kwame Abayomi.

Church opens in Greenwood
River of Life Christian Center held its first service at the new sanctuary Jan. 20. The church acquired the old hardware store at 17 West Market St., Greenwood, in June 2001. The building has been completely revamped with the addition of a second rest room and compliance with all fire and building code requirements. Intercessory prayer training is scheduled to begin Feb. 21, 7:30 p.m. The 13-week course will teach how to intercede in prayer more effectively for others. There is a $15 donation for workbook and literature. The church office hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Worship services are held on Sundays at 11 a.m. and Bible study is on Wednesday evenings at 7:30.
