Symphony to play Saturday at Del Tech
The Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra (MSO) will present its winter concert on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 8 p.m., in the theatre at Delaware Technical & Community College, Owens Campus, Georgetown. Under the direction of Donald C. Buxton, the concert will include Felix Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin, Opus 64; Franz Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 96 in D Major “The Miracle”; Edward Elgar’s Salut d’amour Opus 12; Gabriel Faure’s Masques et Bergamasques Opus 112. Additional selections by Ravel, Mascagni, and Villa-Lobos also will be performed. Tickets are $20 at the door or can be purchased in advance by calling 888-846-8600 or (302) 856-5400, Ext. 2280. Fee for students under age 18 is $10; children under 10 are free when accompanied by an adult. The MSO is comprised of approximately 40 professional musicians who travel from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region to perform on the Delmarva Peninsula.

Del Tech wedding expo
If you’re planning a wedding, you should plan to attend the wedding expo being held on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Delaware Technical & Community College, Owens Campus, Georgetown. The expo will take place in the Student Services Center from 7 to 10 p.m. It will feature a fashion show, exhibitors, refreshments, and prizes. Admission is $5 per person. Seating is limited, so register by Feb. 1. Call 854-6966.

Elks host dinner-theater
The Seaford Elks Lodge will present a Dinner Theatre on Friday, Feb. 8 and Saturday, Feb. 9. The title of the play is a “Mid-Winter Nightmare,” a hilarious attempted murder, comedy-drama that takes place in a courtroom setting. There are 13 cast members. The menu includes: 8 oz. rib-eye steak, baked potato, string beans, salad, dessert, coffee and rolls. Cost is $12 a person. Tickets may be purchased at the Fantasy Beauty Salon on High Street, Seaford, or by calling Jim Cecil at 875-3810. Each person has the seating arrangement. 100 tickets will be sold for each night. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. The deadline for purchasing tickets is Feb. 5. In the event of severe inclement weather, the tickets will be good on the same nights the next weekend. What a great way to shake the winter blahs. Join us, we will be happy to have you.
Free tax assistance
AARP-Tax Aide is offering free tax counseling and preparation from Feb. 4 through April 11 for senior and low-income taxpayers. AARP-Tax Aide volunteers, trained in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service, will assist with personal tax returns at the following locations:
