Nanticoke’s Employee of the Year

Nanticoke Memorial Hospital announced Chris Hevner as its 2002 Employee of the Year during ceremonies last week. Edward Hancock, Nanticoke Health Services' CEO/President, made the announcement after talking about each of the hospital’s 2002 employee of the month honorees. Hevner has been with Nanticoke Memorial Hospital on the Obstetrics-Labor & Delivery Unit for 31 years. She enjoys all aspects of the pregnancy experience: labor, delivery, post-partum and newborn care. She says, “Childbirth is a miraculous journey and is always full of surprises.” Hevner is described by her co-workers as a true team player who is always willing to lend a helping hand. She is encouraging to her patients, families, and peers and has a vast knowledge of obstetrics and nursing in general. Chris is extremely dedicated to her profession and exhibits a positive attitude every day. Chris and her husband of 31 years, Jerry, have two sons: Scott, a project engineer at Allen’s, and Luke, who is finishing college at West Virginia University with a degree in landscape architecture. Hevner says her motto for life is: “Number one: show up; number two: stick it out; and number three: never sit on the bench if you can get in the game.” Among her heroes are the firefighters, ambulance crews and the other emergency personnel who rushed to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, as well as her mother-in-law, who is a breast cancer survivor. As Employee of the Year, Hevner received a gift package that included money, an Employee of the Year plaque, a one-hour massage, tickets to the Auxiliary Snowball or Auction, dinner for two at Bon Appetit, two-night stay at Holiday Inn Express, a gift certificate for Employee Activity Committee merchandise, a floral arrangement, a fruit basket, and more.
